Aha, my anticipated funny business sullies my efforts in advance, eh boyo? Yeah, you're prolly right. I'll try to behave myself.

"To buy a pig in a poke." means to purchase something without examining it first. The quirky part is the use of "poke" to mean a sack.

Hey Ya'll. Here are some of our sayings in Texas:

A heavy rain is a "Gully Washer"

If something is really big, it's "Bigger'n Dallas"

When you don't like something you simply say - "I can't cotton to that."

This jerks in the rice rockets that are being aggressive are "Friendly as fire ants."

Many people here say "I wasn’t born in Texas….but I got here as soon as I could."

In No. Calif. worthless notions were denigrated: "That's a two-bit idea."

The 'bit' refers to the once prevalent Mexican Silver Peso that was physically 'sliced' into eight segments, or bits, since the entire coin was much too valuable for most daily uses (in the later 1800's). Thusly, in American coinage, two bits were twenty-five cents.
Crossing the Bay Bridge cost 75 cents in the 1960's. As we approached the toll plaza, my dad would tell me, "Get out six bits, son." from the glove compartment.
