what the hell is wrong with Hollywood? Are movie execs out of ideas? I mean one to make a movie out of "Battleship" and two for realizing that they couldn't figure a way to make a realworld conflict in the movie, so hey let's just put freaking giant alien robots in it! Oh and Rihanna!

What's next candyland? Trivia pursuit the movie? How about ants in my pants! I got it monopoly!

Jeez! I did like the pegs in the side of the battleship though!

(what's even more sad is that I made this rant, while I am thinking to myself that I will probably end up seeing this movie!) so I gues you win Hollywood!

Man, I super agree. What is becoming of artistic endeavor. There are hella writers with plenty of great ideas for new flicks, me and some of my buddies included. The utter devotion of the movie medium to profits at the box office has unhinged, for a great part, the value of art from the enjoyment of the spectators. Movies don't have to be "written" for the lowest common denominator amongst the viewing public. A good story is worth ten special effects enhanced re-re-editions of comic books, tv series, sequels and prequels ad nauseum.

Good stories CAN and are written for the screen, but these days they come to the theatre ONLY when their producer is a maverick who can afford to thumb his nose at the usual investors' cupidity (greed for money). Johnny Depp is willing to take artistic chances, recall his renditions of "Dead Man" in black and white no less, or "Before Night Falls" where he plays two parts: a Cuban policeman, and a transvestite whore in a Cuban men's prison. Or Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven".

Looks like "Pearl Harbor" meets "Battle: Los Angeles".

Hollywood has run out of ideas and now just looks for ways to make 3D look cool.

I couldn't disagree more, if you mean that good ideas aren't just waiting to be made inta' flicks; they ARE, I know it personally.

The Hollywood establishment has thrown decency and artistical creative talent to the winds. All those mo'fos want is to increase their rapacious profits!

Ok, hollywood has ideas....just not original ones...Most of the new movies that come out are FX driven crap....poorly written, no character development...way too dependent on FX, CGI, 3D etc....but hey, people are still spending $$$ to go see them, so what the heck do I know.

Yeah, kids and adults with rudimentary language skills in English like movies with minimal dialogue and plenty of "action".

Furthermore,Hollywood producers count on selling their flicks to an overseas market as well who understand little or no English.

Action makes money, but leaves the audience who wants a thoughtful movie out in the cold and discouraged.

Being a Former Sailor and one who use to work as a Operations Specialist (for you non Navy types a Radarman, except so much more) and also someone who has played various version of "Battleship" this is cool and when it comes out I will have Fun picking it apart for the errors made by the movie makers.

I will say this. Battleship is a much better concept for me than the new Conan movie that's about to come out.

The fact that they are re-making one of the best fantasy movies of all time, well directed, beautifully shot. At least in my opinion.

Now they come out with this remake, and just like True Grit, they have to screw with what was an awesome movie. These types of remakes bug me far more than a movie like Battleship being made.

I'm sure somewhere a hollywood "writer" is trying to come up with a way to make that into a 3d-action-cgi-fest "blockbuster". Or of course we could just re-boot some comic book movies that were just done in the last 10 years.

it's sad that there's more great shows on cable tv, then there are good movies in the theater.

although I am looking forward to this one...
