Did I do the right thing?
Saturday I was at a car show put on by a local dealer,
I walk into the showroom to use the facilitys and there right in front of the door sat a 2012 Shelby GT 500 The same dealer also has the Chevy dealership where I bought my 2010 2SS/RS in Sept 09. and is an authorised Roush dealer. Well it all but knocked me over silver, Red stripes, glass roof, Navigation, Recaro seats . Sat and talked to a salesman and figures started flying , he came up with a final price trading the Camaro, out the door tax, tag transfer of 28.5 k I know I could have gotten another SS with no options for close to that. Never owned a Ford have been all GM for a long time owning many of them. When I opened the hood and saw that huffer on top of that 5.4 I couldn't resist the temptation. The previous day was spent in Carlisle PA at the Ford national event Ford had a big display there with 5.0 GT's, Boss 302's offering demo rides a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go with him it's about 200 miles away from where I live I allways go to the Gm nationals but said to him I don't want to see any Fords but went anyway I really like my SS but I was overtaken by the Shelby. Do you think I am making a mistake? I know the ZL 1 will be out by the end of the year but it basicaly is the same with different power than my SS Opinions happily accepted |

It's a great car. I had a 2010 that was a great car and the new ones are even better. I don't think you'll be sorry you went that route unless your like me. After I got mine, I was still hung up on the looks of the camaro. So I ended up selling the GT500 to get a camaro.
I'm getting a ZL1 because for me I'll now have what I was looking for in the GT500 with the awesome looks of the camaro. Something to think about. |

Personally, I wouldn't trade my Camaro for anything else. Yeah, the car rivalry is fun, but Chevy didn't corner the market on engineering talent. A great car is a great car... regardless of the Chevy/Ford/Dodge badge. So, if the Shelby is calling your name, nothing wrong with that.

No one can make the decision easier for you. But I think most people know right away what they prefer.
For me: Exterior: Camaro wins easily. Best looking car ever. Engine: Even Interior: Mustang wins. Looks better and more options. I haven't really liked mustang exteriors since the 60's. |

I would not have traded my SS. However my plans are to add a Mustang to my stable and it will be either a GT500, Saleen, or a Roush.
I don't get into the whole car battle as I like a lot of different makes and models. My good friend has a GT and we always bounce ideas off of each other. Let's face it, there are some non-GM super sweet rides out there. |

You are spending a lot of money. I will give you the advise my wife gave me when deciding on getting a convertible or a SGM coup. Make sure its what you want because the last thing I want to here in a year is "I wish....Fill in complaint here"

Just hope you don't depressed everytime you pass one of the 9,345,128 of them on the road! But as long as you are happy, who cares what anyone thinks!

Did you drive it?
I test drove a Mustang (no it wasn't a Shelby, but that isnt' the point) before driving the Camaro. There was no doubt that that Camaro was the better car for me. You should always test drive a car to make sure it's right for you. The Shelby is an amazing car, but the look of the Mustang's just don't do it for me. I think the Camaros have far more eye appeal. But, if YOU like it, that's all that matters! |

Maybe it's just me, but I think the looks of the newer (2005+) feature styling/bodylines that mimic the '60's versions, so if you liked that styling, how could you not like the new Mustangs?

As for the OP's question, I have several friends who were big GM guys who "jump ship" to a GT500 and have no regrets at all. Buy what you want, not what other people think you should have. I get crap about my Crossfire convertible all the time, but I love it. |

Man, those Shelby's do look nice, but for me, I'm keeping mine. Good luck with your final decision.

I had a Mustang GT before I bought my 2010 Camaro. Before the Mustang I owned 3 other Camaros. Bottom line is they're both great cars, both American muscle. Can't go wrong either way IMO

My 2010 Roush is for sale. 4578 miles $27,749 firm. Any takers? That's my opinion on which one you should keep. Good luck with your decision.
