Thankful for nice state troopers!

was traveling yesterday from Long Island back home and got pulled over for doing 84 in a 65...oops...i do not normally do more then 10 over the limit but it was a wide open road and i was in la la land just cruising.

Trooper asked for my license and registration, asked if my license was clean, which it is. He then offered me a no seatbelt ticket instead of a speeding ticket! i was soooooo happy he did that and then on top of that i was on my way again 5 minutes later.

Not to be a dick...BUT ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEATBELT.

Cool that he let you off for the lesser infraction of speeding though.

Sorry, I disagree with the decision of the trooper. The roadside is not the place for the negotiation of justice. That needs to be done in a courtroom. Offering you a consolation citation for an offense you did not commit could get the trooper in trouble big time.
What if you contest the seat belt ticket? What would the trooper say in court, under oath?
That he offered to give you a seat belt ticket in exchange for a speeding ticket? The trooper will have to admit in court you were charged with something you did not do. You would be found "not guilty" and the trooper would be in the captains office facing discipline.
Many of us might assume you gave the trooper a $20 bill and he wrote you up for a seat belt instead of speeding.
Glad you got a gift from the officer but he is sticking his neck out.
The trooper should either write the stub for the offense you did or not write a ticket.

Georgia State Troopers don’t play, if they pull you over you’re screwed. That is why I always set my cruise control before I go to La La Land!!
