Low budget race leagues

Hey everyone, want to have a bunch of fun racing for very little investment?

The two sites below will link you to the race leagues that I currently compete in. Both have similar concepts. You have a budget of $500 to purchase and upgrade a vehicle which you will then race in (depending on the event) either 2 days of 7 hour endurance racing, or a solid 24 hours of endurance racing.

Races are held all over the country and cash prizes are awarded for most laps completed during the race and for other awards such as 'Least Horrible Yank Tank' (which has been won by quite a few older camaros)

Drop me a PM if you want some more info about these races, I have been competing in them for a little over a year and a half and really love it, it's totally addicting.

REALLY wish we had something like this up here. It's long been a dream of mine to buy some land and build a race track. Everything around here is ovals and drags. Which is fine for some, but not my cup of tea.

Chumpcar is actually holding at least a few races in Canada this year, check out their page at the link in my first post and click in 'Events', not sure if the trip to the race location would be worth it for you, but my team has done a 9 hour drive for a weekend race and we thought it was totally worth it, haha.

The closet thing we have to those is called guardrail cars, its where u take a beat up old neon or cavalier or anything along that line, strip the interior, throw a piece of guardrail on the drivers door and they let u race around a quarter mile or halfmile dirt track

:O They're coming to Race City??!!!!! dammit if it wasn't only 2 weeks away I totally would have done that. I'll have to keep an eye out next year. It's only 6 hours away, I would totally drive for that.

I see you're from Pennsylvania? Not sure of your exact location, but there's a chumpcar event in wampum, pa in july

They do these things all over the place.

Do it, haha, you'll have a total blast, we currently race a 1990 Honda Civic (total piece of crap), but we always have a good time. Read through the rules and start trolling craigslist for junkers.

Chumpcar has taken to using what it calls AIV(average internet value) where if they feel your car is worth more than $500, they will ask that you provide several internet based listings for similar cars with an average price falling below the $500 limit.

As for performance upgrades, they have a list somewhere of how much they tack on to your car's AIV for each upgrade you do(allthough most safety related equipment is not included in the limit i.e. seat/harness/rollcage/brakes)

If you get lucky and have a total crapcan like we do, they don't even bother asking you what you paid for the car, haha.

must be your area, a 90s civic would cost more then $500 unless the engine was blown and it was set on fire.

1980s cars stlll cost more then $500 if its run here.

Engine needed lots of work when we got it and the body was in pretty poor shape, it also had over 300K miles on it, lol

I've driven in a couple of the LeMons races and it was a blast! Our team now has a couple cars and we're doing the Chumpcar races.

If anyone is looking to spend some time on the track without spending a lot, this is a Great and Fun way to do it.

Watch out for the penalties though, HAHAHA !! I've seen people who've had to dress up as mimes and act out their bad driving, wear a diaper and eat baby food for complaining to the judges, Etc.
I posted videos on YouTube of one we got:

I got one one time where i had to write "I will not speed in the pit" 100 times on our car with a sharpie.

Really looking forward to the next race.
