Cruze recall

General Motors is recalling a handful of its Chevrolet Cruze cars -- because the steering wheels could come off. The Department of Transportation says steering wheels in some Cruze cars could detatch from the steering column while driving. This video shows the 2008 Cruze -- the recall affects only certain 20-11 model year cars. G-M says Cruze drivers can take their cars to a dealer for a free safety inspection to make sure the wheel is properly fastened.

Interesting. Wheels come off? So...somebody failed to do their job and install/tighten a nut?

This is the NASCAR version, much easier to get in and out of the driver's seat.

Kinda funny news said it was discovered when a guy driving down the street had the wheel come off

That's gotta be fun, happened on a 10speed to me once, thats a whole new lvl of panic.

And shiet happens, since it was such a small recall, im bettin that is what it is. They were able to ID the shift that was not doing their job right.

Could be worse, the Cruze could be accelerating out of control randomly and nobody could find the phantom explanation for it.........wait a minute.....

I wonder which is the right way to stop a car in a panic with the wheel in your hand

hitting the foot brake will surley make them turn, locking up the parking brake should just drag the rear and keep the fronts straightish, though id downshift too / engine brake.

Given the choice between the problem of having a stuck accelerator vs a steering wheel come of, I would rather have the stuck accelerator issue any day of the week.

"Chevrolet says it has changed the production process to make sure the machine used to attach the steering wheel can accommodate only the correct one."

Such a double edge sword.

Health care cost first took the wrench out of people hands as machines can do repetitive work with less wear. Now the machine will also decide if its the right part or not.

The next evolution won't need a person at all.

It happened to ONE car. GM's just making sure the rest of those cars produced at that time won't have any problems.

Mountain out of a molehill...
