Record companies request $75 trillion in damages from LimeWire

Quote:
An amount only Dr. Evil would naively ask for is actually being requested from the thirteen record companies that are suing file-sharing company LimeWire for copyright infringement. The amount is so preposterous that Manhattan Federal Judge Kimba Wood called the request “absurd.” The record companies are asking for $75 trillion, a number that is more than five times the national debt.

After the loss of Napster, people had to seek other means of finding free music files online. LimeWire has been under a lot of heat from the record industry for sharing files. In May 2010, the company was found liable for copyright infringement. A month later, the company was told it owed $1 billion by the Recording Industry Association of America. Then, in October 2010, LimeWire was shut down.

I doubt they will win all the money of the world, but who knows.

BUt they got away with outragous claims in the early days, making people pay $1000 for every song they downloaded. and not the 99cent they could of bought it legally for and judges let it fly.

Asking for 1 trillion dollars is absurd. What they have asked for, there is no word for it.
