Neighbor's Water Running
Since I'm sitting here wide awake at 4AM because of this I figured I'd ask the group how they would handle this situation. I live in an apartment here in Phoenix, my neighbor behind me who I have never met has running water in their toilet. You can tell its a bad seal because I can hear the water leaking out of the bowl and the toilet desperately filling it up with water to trying to keep it full.
Now this is something that has progressively gotten worse over the past week and now its got me up because its almost a constant sound. I've never met my neighbor before but I'm assuming they must some kind of idiot to let this go for so long, their water bill must be outrageous. The part where I'm affected besides the lack of sleep is the average disposal fee usage that every unit is charged. Now the repairs to this toilet can be done free of charge by the property management with the tenant would just call. So they apparently don't care so I'm considering one of two things. First I could knock on the door this morning and explain how that water running is affecting their billing and how its driving me nuts. Two I can just get the unit number and call the property management myself so they can fix it. Either way I think I run the risk of somehow totally pissing this person off but at this point I really don't care. Thoughts?

The neighbor isn't "doing" anything that is intentionally ticking you off. So going over and introduing yourself and explain to them that the toilet backs up to a common wall, and that the constant running water can be heard thru all hours of the night, and that management will fix the stupid flapper valve for free, should not cause any animosity.

You can talk to your neighbor, OR you could talk to your landlord as well, who would then need to go over and fix it.
I'd talk to the neighbor first though...and let him know that the toilet is running all the time, and you'd like to call the landlord to get it fixed.

2 things can happen:
1) Huge neighbor will #!@* you. 2) Hot neighbor will #!@* you. 50/50, play your luck.

Call the property manager and tell them. They want to know. Your neighbor obviously can't hear it and its not keeping them up and dont care enough. Make the call, get it fixed.

I think you should grab a bat, go knock on their door. When they answer just walk in and beat the hell out of the toilet with the bat, say nothing to them then leave...lol

As much as I like to, that would only make the running water completely constant.

Hook up a microphone and record the sound of the water running. Then dupe it on several cd's. People will pay good money for relaxation sounds like babbling brooks. Sorry it doesn't work for you...

1 thing come to mind, probably a good reason why they don't want the apt managers crew in there poking around and why they haven't gotten it fixed.
So I would leave an unsigned note on their door I can hear your toliet running 24/7, the walls are thin, please have it fixed bla bla bla as I do not want to cause trouble by calling the manager cause your toilet runs all night as I respect your privacy bla bla bla Id just do it the best way possiable, even if its a little old lady |
