bets to lose weight
so, friend as me to make a bet with her to help motivate her to lose weight. So what do you think? I've been thinking for a while and can't come up with any really good ideas. Whats some bets you would make to help a friend continue to be motivated..

When I started to loose weight I said i was going to reward myself with a supercharger for my Camaro. Now I have lost 21 pounds and have 12 to go to reach my 175lb. goal (43 year old male). My reward is being able to wear clothes I haven't been able to in several years. Another benefit is not having to take antacids every day because I overstuffed my pie hole. And the best benefit of all is knowing I'm improving my health. Exercise is a must also. The best motivation I had was watching my obese father sit in a wheel chair for the last 3 years of his life due to diabetes and congestive heart failure. She needs to look at the big picture. She will feel weak and want to give up for the first 2 weeks but it gets easier after that. I downloaded a calorie counter on my droid called fatsecret. I became obsessed counting calories, it is actually fun to watch what you eat. I figured I went from eating up to 6000 calories a day to now eating 1700 on average a day. I have extraordinary determination though, I quit smoking 3 packs a day cold turkey 15 years ago. By the way, I probably won't get the supercharger.

yeah, clothes wasn't a good motivator. I dont think food is either. Was trying to think of something someone would want..that they couldn't just do themselves. haha. Hard to think of such a thing though

I lost 95 pounds. I rewarded myself with little things with each 10 pound milestone. Clothes or night out. With big milestones I rewarded myself with bigger things. As someone said.. no food rewards!
I stayed motivated because I saw the results. The reward's were just icing on the....rice cake

Well, my company actually sponsors a health program. I have to track my weight on a weekly basis and exercise on a daily basis. Nothing too complicated though. I usually just write down 1 hr in the weight room or 15 min jogging. Anyway, after I fill out my paperwork and turn it in. I earn a extra $30 per month and if I hit my weight loss target and maintain it in a year I could earn as much as $360. They way I fugure it, it's them paying me to stay in shape and healthy. Win-win situation. I've currently lost about 12 lbs in 2 months. My goal is 17 lbs more in 10 more months. Should be no problem.
I don't see food rewards being a problem as long as they're health foods. Clothes are always nice. I like the idea of a night out. Maybe someplace like, D&B?

I've lost 100 lbs over the last year and a half and to be honest the best motivator is to just go with that person and give forceful yet not offensive motivation if excuses come up. It is awesome to have someone to talk to when you are lifting/running/etc. That way you can try other work outs too if you hit plateaus or boredom.

Also if her heart isn't 110% in it, there is nothing that will motivate her to stay on a diet. It's one of those things you just have to do. It needs to be a lifestyle change to make a difference, not just a fad diet.

nah it was more of a joke type thing then anything. Like held over her head. "if you dont do it, then blah blah blah". Just something crazy and fun. Not meant to be a sole motivating thing.

Having former Army and Marine infantrymen for friends is a good motivator. I swear to god, I even look at a bag of cheetos I have to hear about it for THREE DAYS. Other than that, just determination and knowing why you are losing the weight, having a clear goal.
And like others, id recommend against food rewards. You should do something fun with her as a reward, something that doesnt involve a night out at a restraunt. Just make sure you are involved. |
