And to those saying a zo6 traps at above 125 here ya go

M/Ts test of a 2011 zo6/z07 shows it slower than its test of the shelby. Obviously though there are many z06s that have gone faster than 11.8 but we don't know yet what the shelby is really capable of until people with lots of seat time drive them.

Lets face it, this car is in z06/z07 territory now. The only cheap competitors of this car is the zr1 and GTR.

Though I really like the zr1
I think your fooling yourself. ford did a great thing here they finally built a mustang that will beat a base corvette but Z06/zr1/gtr stock vs stock are still more well round perfroming cars.

the shelby's high gearing to conteract its traction is going to prevent ti from running the times the other cars are cabable of in the right hands.

they deffinately closed the gap though and made it a driver contest though as now I beat on stock gt500's like red headed step children grandma shifting and rolling out. I would have to do my part to beat this car at least.

I will not be selling my ZL1, and will drive it proudly and am still excited every time I step in the driver’s seat. But with the recent release of the GT500 performance, I must say, the ZL1 has been bitch slapped right across the face. I expected the new GT500 to beat it in the quarter; however, I did not expect mags to be getting an 11.5 quarter with over 125 MPH traps. Furthermore, the GT500 seems to have outperformed the ZL1 in EVERY category which is something I definitely did not expect. Braking, skip pad, weight, gas milage, even the LC feature seems to one up the ZL1. Yes I realize the fully optioned/tested GT500 is $64k vs. the comparable equipped ZL1 at $55k, but damn, I wish we still had something to hold onto to. I wish GM would offer a factory performance upgrade that still keeps warranty intact. Maybe a pulley swap and tune at the least? While I still agree the GT500 is nowhere near as stylish as the ZL1 (still subjective, although sales pretty much show the general public prefers the looks of the Camaro over the Mustang), it is NOT on the same level in terms of performance. Given that I own a ZL1 I wish it was, but the truth is, it’s not.
Mods – Before you close this post, realize this is coming from a ZL1 owner who cannot stand the looks of a Mustang, but can certainly respect what the have done in terms of answering GM’s ZL1.
honsetly you just need to add ~80-100hp.

I think peopel have lost there mind personally no disrepect but if having the fastest car in the quartmile was that important I don't know why you chose the 4120lb Zl1.

I really feal like longtubes, pulleys, tune, cai, and you might not even need the longtubes.

I could throw that on in a weekend.

the 2013 GT500 is a rad car but acting like the sky is falling is wierd. When the ZR1 came out I did not go nuts even though one can spank me like a one legged man in a$$ kicking contest.

GT500 may play in the Vette's backyard sometimes but it is a 4 place sporty coupe not a full on sportscar. Too bad Ford has (wisely) decided to leave the American Sportscar category to GM. Can you imagine a Ford Sportscar in constant development against the Vette? And no, the Ford GT was not that car.

Don't hold your breath for a Camaro that will beat a GT500 now. The only way thats gonna happen is if there was no Corvette. Ford has no flagship car above the GT500 holding them back.

If I was looking at a track car, the Boss and Z06 would be on the top of my wish list.

I still want to see which car truley handles the best. I may end up being wrong but I have felt the GT500 will have a hard time matching the drivablity that I see when I want people hustle the zl1 around the track.

that is whay I want the best balance. strait line speed is easy to attain. here is the recipe.

1. add traction
2. add horsepower
3. fix anyting that became un-reliable by number 1 and 2.

if only it were that simple to got fast around corners.

this should not suprise anybody. you don't give up 80 some horsepower wile wieght more and win a drag race.

I am supprised there are no numbers yet around turns. I am thinking it is like I though and the GT500 stepped up over itself and the boss but will have a hard time besting the ZL1.

honestly though my plan from day one because I own a Z06 was to mod to get the strait line speed back. to me this is a big who cares moment.

I liked the look and the handling of the car that has not changed.

I am pissed about the GG tax still though ha ha.

Jay Leno said he might choose the Boss over the Shelby. Most magazines still say the Boss is the BEST Mustang ever made. The Shelby the fastest, but I still think the Boss is the most complete. Again, this is why the ZL1 is so good, it does everything really well.

Why do you say that Ford GT "was not that car" ?

Right now, the Mustang GT500 is Ford's "halo" car for better or worse.
I'm hoping they bring a successor to the 2006 GT "40" back into production.
While not totally dominent in the Corvette/GT/Viper war's of that time, that car is pure sex.
