Personally I don't drink that much Koolaid. I am not gonna go out and say that Mobil 1 is the best and only oil you should use because its not but for its price range it is one of the better oils you can go out and buy. Since my first oil change at 1500 miles I have been using Mobil 1 0W-30 (I would not recommend that for anyone up north) and a K&N oil filter

Mobil 1 has gone down hill in the recent years. Not very good at all if you look at oil analysis results. I made the switch to Pennzoil Platinum.

Just throwing this out there but just did a research on Mobil 1 going down hill and a few of the forums I went to said the same thing about Pennzoil Platinum.

why? Is thicker? 5w-30 is not enough?

It's actually the other way around. The lower the number the thinner the oil is. But being up north that has a higher chance of the oil not letting the car start right in the colder months. In Florida's warmer weather the thinner oil is supposed to give less stress to the motor when cold starting but once its warm it has the same exact properties as 5W-30.

Some guy swears that when he street raced his brother in a 5.0 he won twice and there for his 2LS is faster than a 5.0.
