The Browe BTO (MSRP $1440.00) is lighter at 16.7 oz. The TA02-D-100394 ACOG LED version (MSRP $1548) is 18.1 oz with mount. Apples to oranges: Browe BTO is 16.7 oz with mount and the non-LED ACOG 4x32 BAC TA31H (MSRP $1502.00) is 9.9 OZ without mount. The mount is included in the MSRP price. When I bought mine, I emailed the company and the owner, Brian Browe, emailed me back. I was asking about a sale because I had missed one. He sent me a link to a reinstated sale based on my inquiry. After I received it and shot with it, I wanted one for my 5.56. I emailed again asking when there was going to be another sale. Brian emailed me back and honored the sale price again. I purchased both for under $900 each. I have a friend who has a BTO. He was having battery issues (battery cap spring wasn't doing it's job) and sent it back for a free battery cap upgrade. When he received it back, it had a LaRue mount on it. |

The ACOG is a great sighting system although fixed magnification is not something I need for 7.62x39 AR 300 yard or less gun. Really doubt I shoot this over 200 yards. My AR 223 will shoot flatter and better target gun and my .308 is better for distance. Now the ACOG on my .308 is a good choice. There is ad near with a brand new acog I think 4x32 with an rmr for $800 in the box. That is a deal you will easily get your money back from though. |

That is even better. That would make it a hot seller if they prove no thermal drift. That is is my other hesitation. Any gun in August here in florida is going to be over 122 degrees fahrenheit. They are trying to hit a ship date of 5/17 which is tomorrow. Maybe we can hear back from Blake shortly what he thinks!

I read about a possible ship date of 05/18. Vortex won't charge my card until it ships and I pre-ordered the first week they were announced. I'll update when I notice the card is charged or it shows up.
I am not too worried about thermal drift as I'm not in combat and don't expect to be in temperatures under -40* or over 122* F for very long at all. Even if I were, what are the chances the other guy isn't being affected as well? At those temps, you're likely not going to be Sgt. York at distance any way. The sights are made of metal and will be subject to expansion based on ambient temperatures and length of exposure. I cannot see any scenario where you'd go from one to another extreme in the same incident. Maybe running from the outside in the Middle East into a freezer? Even then, the temps wouldn't be -40 in the freezer. The distances wouldn't be so great as to detrimentally affect accuracy you couldn't hit your target. If you ran from the inside to the outside (and were inside the freezer long enough for the metal to actually get cold and contract) there might be some issues but I wouldn't worry about it. Navy SEALs and other units have been killing bad guys for a couple of decades with EOTECHs. Other manufacturers have thermal drift as well: http://soldiersystems.net/2016/03/08...thermal-drift/ (this was obviously in response to EOTECH issues) They just didn't hide it from the government and quietly try to fix or minimize the issue. Regarding AR optics....I've used everything from red dots, to quality conventional scopes. They all have a niche that they fill.
I keep an old 6.5-20X Leupold 1" tube on a set of La Rue rings, for accuracy /load testing. Works great for that purpose. Works well for our little gophers too. The red dot is great for 3 gun and short range, quick plinking. The ACOG as well. But for me the ACOG really fills quite a few roles, quite well. I've used it for night time coyote removal out to 200 yds. Yet it works fine for short range work too. I ran a 1.5-5X on my LWRC for a few years....That was a great set up too. It IS TOUGH to choose that ONE perfect optic set up for an AR. Too many choices, for a gun that can be used for so many roles. |

That is a good point and I agree all optics with different materials will have this. Although with less thermal drift and at a higher temperature it makes you feel more comfortable. I can live with a 1 moa at 160 degrees. Not a 4 moa beyond 122 degrees. (Maybe Exaggerated but you get the point) If the Vortex can be proven for the same as an MRO I have a card waiting. Maybe even before that as I like the sight and like to stick with american made like trijicon and Eotech before. |

I just ordered a Browning Buck Mark Contour URX 5 1/2" barrel. Looking forward to doing some cheap shooting. It was between that and the Ruger Mark IV. I went with the browning for a couple reasons mainly I love the grips and it has a full rail.

Anyone interested in 2 Russian Izhmash saiga ak's? One is .223 and one is 7.62x39. These rifles have never even been sighted in. Just moved from a friends safe to mine and I need to make some room. Have your common safety scratch from fondling. I will post some pictures if there is any interests on here or send me a pm. Thought I might give you guys a shot before I post them locally.
I guess good places to post firearms online would be armslist and backpage? I also belong to a gun club so will try that tomorrow too. |
