And a car "built by an American company" does nothing for the American production worker if it is built in Canada. At least a Toyota assembled in the U.S. benefits the working American production employee as they get a paycheck out of it, the plant pays taxes in America, and the local economy gets a boost from the additional employed citizens that then spend their money in the local economy.

The argument you put forth is one of worst for why someone should buy a car... Is a Buick assembled in China better than a Toyota assembled here? If you want to support the American worker, then buy a car assembled in the United States with parts built in the United States.

If you want to buy a Camaro because you really love the Camaro...buy it. Don't justify your purchase with the fact that it is an "American" company when the production does not occur in the United States. That's almost as good as people calling the GTO an American car...the thing was built in Australia. There are plenty of "foreign" cars that have much more American content than some of our own "domestic" cars...

You sound guilty. I always read the label. You can not always buy American but if there are two comparable products and one is made here or is made by an American company, I will go with the American brand. Folks like you that like the foreign stuff have cost me my job on several occasions. If and when it costs you your livelyhood, perhaps you will have a change of opinion. I worked for a loom company that made the finest looms in the world. The problem was that we did not make the cheapest looms in the world. The fabric companies in the USA bought the foriegn ones. We went out of buisness. They did not care until the foreign clothing and textiles started showing up on our shores. Then JP Stevens and others started airing TV commercials asking us to continue to buy their products to protect American jobs. Do you really think that when you buy a Japanese car and they send the money back to Japan and then back here to buy our movie studios and real estate that it doesn't matter? Do you have a Camaro? Would you have one if the Ricer companies put GM out of buisness? After 9/11/2001, a friend of mine asked me why I did not have an American flag decal on my car, I told him that I did not need one. I took him to the front of my 1998 Z-28 and showed him the red, white and blue crest on my Camaro's hood.

The thing that made me go from being a production machinist to becomming a tool maker is the fact that we no longer make very many things here. If all of you import fans know any history, you will know that the reason us northerners won the civil war was because we had the manufacturing facilities and the south did not. The north waited until the south's superior soldiers ran out of guns, ammo, clothing boots etc. A USA without a solid manufacturing base is in big trouble indeed. So if you do not care about this then go buy your Toyohonarubishi cars. I will stick with my Camaro, Buick and Harley, thank you.
so Mr betrayed-by-the-world, which is worse:
1) a car with a Japanese brand, made in America (Camrys, Accords, Corollas, Civics etc. - all made in N.America)

or

2) a car with an American brand, made in Canada?

both suck LoL
well these so called foreign companies now all have american division with all american workers (except the head of head) and american factories..
Nissan had plans its increasing its american part buying 80% so cars are not only assembled in america but r also mostly american parts..
Its not the names brand if u want to support america..
look for the first vin # to be 1 and then check to make sure car is atleast 80% american parts..

It's all getting confusing. Soon we have the FT-86 coming out. A Toyota, built by Subaru with a Subaru engine, coming out of an American plant assembled by American Workers. I'm so confused!

Last time I checked Canada was in North America as well.

It all comes down to personal preference. Guess I'm old school! I remember the days of cruising and checking out the other cars meant who had the built Camaros, Stangs and Charger/Challengers. The kids driving whatever shit box they could afford would join in to but knew that their cars were POS. Best they could hope for was a cool stereo system oh wait, that was all base that just annoyed people like fart cans. Guess I’m not that old school after all.

So mister foriegn automabile lover, what brings you to a Camaro site? Are you slumming? Wait until it is your job that is moved off shore. Wait until there are no more American automobile manufacturers. GM did not use captured Japanese soldiers as slave labor, Nissan and mitsubishi did. Will you be driving an Al-queda or a Taliban in twenty years?

That is what I thought. Why are we discussing foreign cars? If I wanted to read about "Ricers or Tunas" I would be on a Japanese car site. Enough already! I come to this site for two reasons, because I have owned four Camaros, my newest being my '10 SS that I got on 5/20/09. Reason one is to get information, reason two is to help anyone that I can with information. I do not care about what other country's cars can do. I am not going to be buying one real soon and if I was, I would not be on the Camaro site talking about it.

I'm surprised this thread wasn't moved to "off topic discussions" or "general automotive/other car discussions".

I am probly the biggest rally fan around, I follow it all. Ive driven Evos, Lacia Deltas, AWD Golf Rallye, a Ford Sierra, Ive owned a Subaru RS and WRX STi and had a Turbo Legacy and a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX AWD Turbo 3dr. Ive also driven 350,370 and G35, Supras, NSX etc etc. The Japanese performance cars can be a blast. One thing the import crowd rules with are the shows. Hands down better than a bunch of old geezers drooling over a Studabaker Hawk in a mall parking lot lol. Seriously though the Import sports cars are really good. My STi was the funnest car ever, the Camaro is cool as hell but the STi was an unbelievable blast to drive straight or through the corners.
