Challenger is nice, just too expensive to be competitive, especially in today's economy..

I definitely agree with that statement. I'd not have mine had it not been on employee price, $1,000 cash back, and 0% financing. That deal saved me about $5-6K or so.

If they would drop 400lb, put the 6.1 in the rt and only charge $36000 they would have a winner.

That'd be awesome for sure. They'll never be able to drop 400 lbs though, it's just too big for that, but that makes it very comfortable to drive so I'd rather have the weight personally to keep the comfort. People get too hung up over 3/10ths of a second on the track when they'll probably never even see a track. If they do, they'll do a few passes a month and drive on the street the rest of the time so it's not like we're racing these off the lot cars for a living. The 6.1 may make it's way into the R/T once the 6.4L goes into the SRT, but I don't think it'll ever be $36K :(

I don't know what makes the Challenger more expensive. It can't be just because Dodge wants to Charge more as I'm sure if they could sell it cheaper they would. Its got a lot of Mercedes parts in it so maybe that drove the production costs up?

they need an all new chassis built for a two door car that could also double as a smaller four door. this would kill two birds with one stone. because the avenger is crap and needs updated too. this would get the weight out and should knock the price down.

The Challenger is pretty spacious inside, more of a mid-size touring car than a pony car, which is why it has something of a cult following. Seating 5 comfortably is not something you do in a compact car. Both the Mustang and Camaro are compact size, with the the Mustang being more spacious in certain categories, while the Camaro weighs quite a bit more than the Mustang.

no they can't, because the Challenger is heavier than the Camaro and both are technically compacts. I do not know of a car which is classed as a compact which is heavier than the Challenger. For reference, the Mustang is a sub-compact.

True.
The way I see it, the Challenger can carry 4 comfortably, and 5 in a pinch...
My GT500 (like the Camaro) can carry 2 comfortably, and 4 in a pinch.
