Something that may help in the eating is cook in bulk. I usually prepare meals in advance, usually we are all pressed for time and find it easier to pick something up than cook so prepare your own "tv dinners". What I do to keep things simple is get Perdue perfect portion chicken breasts, sprinkle with a little salt free lemon and pepper seasoning, they come five in a package one for each day when at work, get steamer bags for vegetables, only take 2-3 minutes in the microwave, and I use a rice cooker to cook rice in bulk, put one chicken breast, 1 cup vegetables and depending on your cal requirements 1 cup rice in microwaveable containers and freeze. Grab a container and 3-4 minutes in the microwave and you have no thought perfectly balanced meals. Also Bonnie has a recipie posted for turkey chilli, do the same thing cook a batch, throw it in microwaveable containers of the appropriate portion size and again a no thought balanced meal. If you make it easy it's easier to follow a plan.

Here is something I do to up the protein and reduce carbs, mix 1 cup brown rice with one cup lentils when cooking. The lentils are lower in carbs and higher in protein than the brown rice. Gotta get your protein.

i'll stick to cardio 4-5 times a week and eating 75-80% of my rdi, no beer still
Your wife's program is probably helping with her success. As I have posted before cals in vs cals out is important but the ratio's you get your cals from is very important , usually for fat loss 40/40/20 works well(carbs, protein, fat) Certain combinations of food help burn fat.

If I didn't prepare all the time It would be sooo much harder! Thankfully if I ever forget my meals we have a subway accross the street from my shop. But I try not to even eat that when I'm down to my last month till competition, but it sure beats all the other fast food restaurants!!!

Don't be bummed, if you're following your plan it will all come together, you didn't put on weight overnight and you won't loose it overnight, some weeks you will loose some weeks not as much, it's the way it is. Have you been keeping a food journal as recomended, if so give it another week, we'll look at the results and your diet and exercise and make adjustments from there if need be. Be consistant and you will get there.

I'm going to start cooking in bulk like this (and I love the lentil idea). It's very hard to stay on track for lunches when you have to make a quick decision in the morning. Dinner isn't a big deal for me, but not planning ahead for lunches always stresses me out!

Honestly, I didn't start a food journal last week. I gotta get started on that. I'm sure you're right...I'm either eating more than I think I am, eating the wrong things or not eating enough!

A food journal doesn't have to be elaborate, just keep a pen and paper handy and everytime you eat or drink ANYTHING, jot it down and it will give us an idea on where to start. If you get in the habbit of preparing your meals in advance it will become so easy. When I started studying what foods and combinations of foods and how much to eat I was overwhelmed as I'm sure many here are, I wished someone would have just said this is what you eat and when, it would be so much simpler. If you write down what you eat perhaps we can give suggestions on what to combine and when to eat them, once you get the idea you can easily design easy fast and well balanced meals without a thought. Honestly this is not guess work, it is science and the more info the better.

It is possible but gaining lean body mass isn't that easy especially without lifting weights and it is very difficult when doing cardio and when in a calorie defficit, to gain muscle mass you need to be in a calorie surpplus and must breakdown muscle to build it via weight lifting.
