However as a last resort, since I like how these cars look, I found a Kia Forte Koup LOADED for $16,000. Also anyone know any good sites besides AutoTrader and Ebay Motors?
Depends on the truck size. On a smaller truck a V6 would be plenty of power, but a full-sized truck like the silverado definitely needs the 8 for all that it is intended to do.

Oh, you think so do you?

You have a RWD/FWD vehicle, see a big pile of snow/other hazard in front of you, what do you do? You go around it.
GIVE ANYBODY a 4WD/AWD in the same situation and try the same. Guess what 98% of people will do? That's right, they will try to go through the same hazard they avoided earlier.

Just look at mudding or rock climbing, would you even attempt that in a RWD truck (even with an LSD)?

In all honesty, the safest vehicle we own in the snow? Our RWD Envoy. Never misses a beat.

It's funny how many 4wd, and awd vehicles you see in the ditch around here. Everybody thinks "oh i have 4wd/awd, i am invincible in inclement weather!" And then crashes.

The only thing 4wd/awd does for you, IS GET YOU STUCK FASTER!

4WD/AWD helps you get moving easier. That's about it. People seem to think that because they have 4WD or AWD they can drive the same speed they always drive when there is snow and ice on the road. If all 4 tires are sliding, you're still screwed.

And also, I drove a lil Ford Focus through a nasty winter last year, and my Scion has gone through some interesting weather already this year. Both FWD and both do pretty awesome in this weather. The only times I've had issues was when the road was 98% ice, which 4WD and AWD wouldn't have helped with anyway. Just gotta know how to drive in the stuff really.

It's true on the 4wd/awd thing. It gives you a false sense of traction- but 4wd doesn't help you stop any faster.

My truck can go through some pretty severe weather, but the best car I ever had for the snow was a VW Rabbit. Which may have been because of the 16inch wheels.

Those 2 vehicles are so far apart though that the question is sort of confusing to me. Do you need a car with good gas mileage or not? The Cobalt would be fine in the snow so that's a misdirect.

lol, yes, 4WD/AWD does help get you moving easier. But it also gives most owner/drivers a false sense of invincibility.

I dunno every time I did LSD when it was snowing it looked like the sky was on fire.....

With the new yorker if you can get the front end over it the whole car will follow.

Been considering a skidplate.

4WD/AWD provides more traction which gives you a better chance of stopping/going. That's it, and yes sometimes even the extra help of 4WD/AWD doesn't work out, but it is definitely better than any 2WD vehicle in the snow.

MMmm....I think I'd have to disagree.

4x4s and AWD vehicles are just another form of powertrain layout. And thus, another tool. Like any tool, it is intended to be used in a certain way.

There is no doubt in my mind that 4x4 and AWD vehicles have more capability in the snow / dirt than a FWD/RWD vehicle. I've just been involved in too many situations that have proved it.

BUT -- those types of cars tend to make the average driver overconfident...which goes back to my belief on the subject -- Driver comes first. And if the Driver is over confident and cocky...he's going to get into trouble. If you're level-headed, you can use AWD in more situations that RWD/FWD.

Whoever is the head of the division who produces Silverados, I want to punch him in the head. 6 Cylinder, 2WD Silveradoes are EVERYWHERE on Ebay and Autotrader.

lol, i know Dragoneye, it was a considerable overstatement in order to prove a point.

To whomever said 4WD/AWD helps you stop better? No. Vehicles with four tires have nearly all the same stopping power (with brakes and tires being the deciding factor, and also weight). And since weight of a 4WD/AWD is heavier then the equivalent in RWD/or FWD, it actually would be not helping you stop better.
