It follows that the speed of light in vacuum is exactly 299,792,458 metres per second
What is the fastest speed achieved in a particle accelerator? Anything close?

There's a MASSIVE particle accelerator on the fringes of France; called the "Large Hadron Collider". It's 16+ miles in circumference, and I think they said they can throw particles up to speeds of 99.99% the speed of light.

You would have reproduction without the fusion of gametes.

From what I've read they're supposed to inject the first particles this month or next.

I really wish they would wait another six months until after I get my Camaro, just incase they somehow create a black hole that eats the world, that would totally just ruin my day.

I have some other questions since it seems this is just one of those threads for goofy stuff: Our universe started with the the Big Bang but where did the matter(or whatever it is) for the big bang come from? When did space start? Why does anything even exist?? We'd always ponder these questions when I was at university......before or after classes of course.

but if you only have half a pencil... how is that different than half a gallon of milk. you only have half of the starting amount. its still milk, it doesnt matter how much you have, it is still milk. it could be a half gallon, a pint, a quart, a full gallon, but it is still milk

believe it or not, but other particle accelterators have been doing stuff like that for years. the thing to keep in mind is that the possible black holes that will be created will be so minute and weak that they disappear miliseconds after they are created.

I thought I remember hearing one of the guys on that project saying that there is a possibility that it could destroy everything, the chances were like 1 in a trillion billion or something goofy like that........but that there was a chance.
Anyways, I digress, this is one of those threads where nothing can be proved.

For the record, my calculator just told me that 2 + 2 = 4, it's usually never wrong

yeah, you've got a better chance of getting hit by an asteroid than the HLC creating a self-sustaining black hole of enough mass to destroy the world.

and your calculator is wrong.... via operator error

There is also a chance that I could pick up a lottery ticket worth $10M sitting on the sidewalk. It could happen, but I ain't gonna hold my breath waiting for it.

I brought this up to a fundamentals of mathematics professor at my university - he explained to me that while your logic is not, technically, flawed, in any non-variable numeric equation, a variable is assumed. Therefore 2 + 2 = 4 is the assumed form of 2(X) + 2(X) = 4(X).
- Xanthos

P.S. - or any variable other than X, if you so prefer.

Its not about what lawyers do, its about how much they make while trying.
