LOWDOWN: What about part 2 of your question ? I know the 6 wheel suspension/chassis was required at least one year in the 80's for the big block engine but don't remember exactly when.
A friend ordered a 6 wheel P/U and when I asked about it he said that's the only way he could get the big block.

The 2nd part was the "F44" or "BIG 10" package.

Dualies have only ever been offered, to my recollection, on 1-ton or 30-Series (modern era) chassis on C/K and GMT 800/900.

As to when an R05 (option code) Dual Rear Wheel Option was REQUIRED to get a Big Block, I do NOT recall that circumstance...but hey, that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Generally, when offered, Big Block's magic moment occurred at 8600 lb GVW ("HD Emissions", as per EPA), which made it available on HD 20/2500s AND single- or dual-wheeled 30/3500s.

Becky? Any insight, here?

^^..Thanks. Please excuse but I like responding here from memory (as limited as it is)..^^
My friend butch had the new pick up I recall in the mid 80's. I sure wish I remembered the exact year.
I remember it because it had a bright red body with an awful mismatched factory maroon interior
that just didn't go with the red paint IMO.

What is missing from the front suspension and how does that help you identify the RPO of this '63 Impala?

Here's a trivia question...with a purpose that I'll explain later:

What was the recommended tire pressure, front AND rear, for 1960 Corvairs?

Initial weight transfer in greatly enhanced with a disconnected/removed front anti-sway bar. Common mod for drag racing...that works well on a street-driven car as well. Races over...hook the bar back up.

The specification called for 15 psi in the lightly loaded front and 26 psi in the heavy rear.....

Put yourself in the "Wayback Machine", with Peabody and Sherman...circa 1960...

Full-service gas stations are the norm: wash your windshild, check your oil level, check your tire pressures.

"Gee, your front tires are low...pull up over here and I'll fix that for you."

26...or 28...in ALL the tires...

"Glad to be of service, have a nice day!"

How do you think it handled?

OVERSTEER!!!

ACCIDENTS!! Some fatal...

Along comes Mr. Ralph Nader and a tome he titled, "Unsafe At ANY Speed"...

As Paul Harvey used to say, "And NOW you know the rest of the story..."

I thought this was pretty relevant and interesting. This tag is from my brother's 1969 Corvair Monza 140 Saginaw 4 speed that we found and shows the tire pressure specifications. It's a fun little car and being a 1969, one of only 6,000 made. It's also one of the ones hand built from the factory and a rare telescoping steering wheel option.
