Please, don't get me wrong; I love my wife and my life and everything about it, and my wife is in no way shallow or superficial or anything like that.

But she sees her buying an $80 purse and just that, $80, which we can afford without really thinking about our finances. So, in that same thinking, she sees me wanting to spend $800 on a suspension kit as just that, spending $800 which we can afford but I think she just sees how much it is all at once and thinks how it will affect our finances.

I guess I shouldn't complain, I did buy the camaro without really consulting with her. I mean, we talked about it and looked at them and what not but when it came down to it, I got off work one day, went to the dealer and left with a camaro.

I just wanted to vent my frustrations about wanting to mod my camaro and catching grief about it from the wife with other C5 members.

2 things...

1) I am really grateful that my fiancee is being supportive in my plan to buy a Camaro around the same time frame we get married. We both already made a common budget and are following it. We've got the wedding plans all made out and the post-wedding budget is also planned out. As long as a couple more stars align at work, I'll be getting the Camaro.

2) Women and men often do have different priorities for purchases. I tend to save up a lot of money and buy something huge, like a SLR camera and lenses, she will buy a couple outfits a month. (I wear my jeans until the bottoms are tattered) So our priorities are different, but I swear to you both of us being open about our spending has been a life saver. We both are aware of our good and bad spending habits before we are married and we are already taking action to control the bad habits that we both have!

So really, what some people have said is right, maintain open communication about your spending habits, and PLAN your major purchases. If you save up for what you buy before you buy it, there is no argument as to whether or not you can afford it. You already saved the money in the bank!

Sometime it is better to ask forgiveness than it is to ask permission.

I'm glad I don't have that problem. My fiance' says it's your money and you spoile me so why not spoil yourself every now and then.

but when she buys an $80 purse and a $75 pair of shoes every other week, that adds up reeeaaal quick, and THAT is what needs to be explained to her. Just had an idea here too: just start taking $100 and setting it aside everytime she buys a purse/shoes till you have the money saved up for your parts, since she doesn't seem to think that is a big deal

Now just because I may like nice purses (and I do have a few) and have a thing for shoes (is having 29 pairs of flip flops considered excessive?) does not mean I am superficial...It just means that I like them :-) I also like fast american cars, football and beer. So, we have a Camaro in the garage, live for football season and always have a "cold one" in the fridge. My husband likes Jeeps and all the latest and greatest gadgets....So, a 4WD Jeep in the garage and all the gadget things (I think he has all of them.) But we work it all out....sometime he gets what he wants and sometimes I get what I want...compromise. Ha! Ha! Ha! I will remember this string of posts tomorrow while I am out giving the Camaro her weekly bath and he is sitting in a lawnchair in the front yard waiting for the UPS man to deliver his new IPad. Life is too short...enjoy it!

I like that, a lot. I don't even need to make it $100, I will just make it the exact same amount she spent.

Find a friend to buy the parts. Then "buy" one spring at a time for them, should be about $60. Then buy one sway bar at a time, mounting kit is extra. You'll never spend more than $100 "all at once"

Well, at least she doesn't nag you about having the Camaro. But then again who would? Everyone loves them.
