Aby, it's not like it's been an easy journey here...my father is working to full time jobs just to pay the bills...so 80 hrs of the week he is gone. Not to mention his wife, which happens to be my sad excuse for a mother is a total nut case. Hence why as of the 21st it wrecks the good ending to my year. She does nothing...she's not even working...so he's doing everything he can, and I am helping when I can. So I know the feeling of being deflated.

hon, the way i look at...
if i let all the Debbie Downers & Pouty Petes affect my attitude, i'd be an awful mess. that's when i learned that having a great day is all about you consciously deciding that it's gonna be a great day! i know... sounds hokey, but it's true. people always ask how i'm doing & i tell them "i'm fantastic!" even if i've only had 2 hrs sleep & ain't ate in 10 hrs. somehow, i still end up finding things to make me feel better.

hope this helps at all

Please tell me something good....something you're happy about, something that makes you smile, something you enjoy, so that I can forget about all the poopy-heads around!
What has put the biggest smile on my face is being able to put a huge smile on my friends faces this week.

Adam, well then you really have a lot to be proud of with your father. I had a terrible upbrining myself. My father was abusive in every way possible, and I grew up not knowing my mother. My dad took me and my twin sister from her when we were only six years old. I am very well aware of how you learn what you DON'T want to be like sometimes by looking at a parent!

Hang in there, things will get better for you and hopefully for your father as well!

I like to say "change your perception and change your reality," it really does boil down to perception and attitude sometimes!

Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas! Happy (almost) New year! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Festivas!

Yes, attitude is everything! it's so easy to let something small roll into a huge thing that weighs you down! Many people have legitimate reasons to be unhappy, however, find something to be grateful for every day! Look, it's there!

A few years ago, after my girlfriends' dog died, she had to get out of her slump someway - very depressed. her dog was my former dog's daughter. Anyway, she started doing "gratefuls". Every day (for years now), she sends 5 gratefuls to her immediate family and a couple of close friends. In August of 2007, I started the same thing.

It' SO Easy to focus on the negative! Sometimes it takes all I have to write 5 gratefuls, but I do!

be grateful! Spread cheer, it cheers you up also! Thanks for the thread Abby!
