I've used the windshield washer fluid trick, as well as gradually slowing down.

Best thing is when other drivers finally have enough of the tailgater's crap and work together to box them in.

My issue is with people in the fast lane who go below the speed limit and see that the traffic is passing them and they don't change lanes. Usually when I get tailgated, I slow down and wait for them to go around then I drop a gear and laugh as i pass by.

It depends...If I'm in the fast lane and someone comes up on my tail, I move over. That's the same courtesy I expect to be afforded.
If I'm in one of the right lanes and they're doing it to bust my balls....I leave...Quickly.
I didn't set my car up the way it is to be fu*#ed with!

I used to get pissed at tailgaters, but then someone said something to me one day. The only reason tailgaters are assholes is because youre making them an asshole in your head. That vast majority of people don't tailgate with harmful intent, theyre just idiots. In the end, the only person getting upset about being tailgated is you.

Also, I think the Camaro is pretty deceptive when it comes to tailgaters. Everyone seems a lot close than they really are.

Side sidebar, anyone who brake checks anyone else is most likeky the biggest idiot on the road. This is so incredbly dangerous for so many reasons. I had a guy in an A8 on a cell phone cut right into the fast lane in front of me going about 20 less than I. He took offense to me flying up on him, so he slammed on his brakes. In the fast lane. In rush hour traffic. Hes lucky that he didnt kill someone behind him.

Tailgaters? I'm the one who tail gates. Idiots out here go 5 under the limit and drive side by side to each other. It irritates the living fudge out of me.

I must admit, I am a recovering tailgater! I started my therapy after finding a bunch of rock chips on my cake icing like painted bumper. Rarely does anyone ever catch up to me on the highway there is that one ass who decides to do it even when I'm speeding in the city traffic. I'll brake check their ass if they don't seem to let off. If that doesn't work I will pull to the side of the road a little and throw rocks on them, not intentionally of course. And yes I agree the best thing to do is just let them pass by you, but they best believe they will get showered with loose gravel on the shoulder.

Now that gives a free pass to tailgate, seriously. "Shit or get off the pot!!" Lol

Brake checking is dangerous for a variety of reasons. I occasionally "false brakecheck" by putting on my emergency flashers for one cycle while maintaining my speed. Thai makes the tailgater, if he/she is paying attention, think that I have put on the brakes when I really haven't. They usually back off a little, but mostly come right back up after they realize I did not hit my brakes. If that happens I just slow down until they go around. As someone else said, there is too much road rage and too many idiots driving to take a chance of doing something foolish. You can't fix stupid, especially by being equally stupid!

I used to be dumb and brake check to, but if you have better brakes them the tailgater, then not good. Now I just pull over and let them go, I don't even tail gate them. Too many stupid people with guns, on crack, or whatever.

I stomp on it after kicking it down and embarrass them badly, then if they still want to tail gate I will do it again, and if they want to harass me I will slow way down, or act like I will take them out. Tail gating is dangerous, its reckless endangering the lives of everyone and I never do it, I would rather speed to get away from them than have anyone that close. To brake check is to invite a accident if they are really that close, and also is reckless if you think about it as if they are not paying attention they can loose control or rear end you. If I had my gun I would press it sideways to the window but that would also be interpreted as illegal for showing someone I will defend my space and life.

Really there is about nothing more annoying than a tailgater except the little cars that think they have a right to whip into your safety cushion you keep to the front. They deserve the finger, but usually I have to just watch as they parade in tailgating and wish they would get ticketed. I do what I can to deny someone I think is aggressively driving to pass me on the right and then take up a place in my safety cushion, even to the point of turning off my dual mode exhaust to straight pipe with my Mild to Wild switch and pressing in the clutch to rev the engine while on the freeway to make my point and tighten up my gap if needed. Some people are just plain rude and think they are the fat and the furious whipping through cars without signaling. Those are also the most dangerous idiots around.
Just a note to those here: I had my wife tell me she saw one of the ricers who live by us pulled over getting a ticket on the main street by where we live with the officer flailing his arms around..... there was a school bus nearby letting off kids. These ricers in our little association area in their little cars live and drive as a pack some times, they have left little tire marks on the street and have loud mufflers on their hooptie rides that are not anything special.

They would sometimes drive by my house and rev their little engines and almost always speed though here as the speed limit is supposed to be 10.... Yah right I figure I can barely limp that speed myself. The point is: If I ever see them on the street I go out of my to either avoid or show them I can blow their doors off within the speed limit on a more major thoroughfare . And even living a block and a half away I can stoke up my engine in the driveway, ( usually I just stay on quiet creep out mode), and it should humble them.

For those who brake check tailgaters, you need to keep something in mind..
I ride a Harley in the summer and I make it a habit to look in the window of as many cars as possible. You would not believe the number of people who text and use cell phones while they drive. Women are the absolute worst. I would say that if I pass 10 women drivers, 8 of them are messing with their phone. They pay zero attention to the road and a lot of them are tailgating someone.

So not only are there crazy road ragers out there, but the road is full of people who are severely distracted while they drive. They may not even realize they are tailgating you. It's that bad.
