I believe the 3 are Pony cars. But they can be both.
In the sixties these cars were designed to be compact road race cars with small high winding engines. GT-350, Z28, and the AAR/RT. These cars were true to their heritage. Personally I think that when the Big 3 from Detroit stuffed oversized high horsepower engines in them, they became muscle cars. It made them fit the definition of very powerful straight line ill handling cars. As for the El Camino, ute, Malibu debate. An El Camino is a body style, A ute is a Aussie word to describe a utilitarian car, and the Malibu was a trim package on the Chevelle A body platform. I know that a Ute is an American indian.

Muscle cars are stylish, powerful, affordable, and fast (in a straight line). I'd agree that there hasn't really been a muscle car made in years.
