Don't get me wrong Fen, I know the story, I remember the rationale and do agree with it. I just don't understand what exactly it was about Buick that couldn't have been done to Pontiac to make that brand the market presence in China for GM? Was it that Pontiac and Oldsmobile were too much like Buick and Cadillac clones to fit in?

Before anyone had even considered bankruptcy or loans from the government, Pontiac was already on the chopping block.

Buick was already in China. It had already been established and was already doing well. Shutting down its operations to start up Pontiac would've been an epic waste of money and time, both of which GM was running out of.
