You don't get housing allowance if you're not married. At least 6 years ago that was the case unless that's changed. If they are married they still have to pay rent if they're not living in the barracks. The barracks rats are the only ones saving and I never knew many to save up that much.

You dont get BAH unless you are married and or have dependents and live off post, now if you are a certain rank they let you move off post and collect BAH. So NO they dont give you housing and give you BAH. Its one or the other and if they are giving you BAH you have to buy your own home. Just to fill you a soldier with 5 years of service thats enlisted is only taking home 2600 a month or so, then BAH if they are married which is probably about a grand. A new PVT in the army living on post makes 20k there abouts. Not big money here folks. But if your making 20 grand and your housing, food, medical is all taking care of you have descent disposable income.

I have two boys in the Marines right now, and their money lasts until about 1 hour after "quitting" time on payday. They both have cars, but not "nice" cars. Military pay is not bad if you take advantage of the free housing and free meals, and don't blow it all on stupidity, but it couldn't be considered "great" pay either.

Just to clear this up, we don't get paid that much while overseas. 4 years ago as an E-4 it took my 22 months in Iraq to save up about $60,000.
That ain't much money.
Contractors get paid A LOT though...
Just Sayin.

Actually, since joining this forum, I am amazed at how many kids (aged 16-20) own Camaros, most of them being SS's.

I don't mean to sound condescending, but seriously. 16 or 17 years old and driving your own SS??? Yeah, obviously I'm a bit jealous, I wish my parents had bought me more than a four year old Ford Escort for my 1st car when I was 18! Even then I considered myself spoiled and lucky just for having a car.

Kids these days! lol

As for the OP....sounds like you might have too much car for your driving abilities. There's a reason why young males pay more for car insurance than anybody else. Having been there once myself, we are, without a doubt, THE WORST drivers on the road. More testosterone then common sense.
Take'er easy, son!

I'm guessing the $100K benz was the retail price about ten years ago. They depreciate fast. My BIL bought a 05' Jaguar XKR supercharged converible new for right at $100K. He's selling it today for $30K w/ only 19K miles. And having a hard time selling at that price.

On Topic. Learn to drive before you get back in the Camaro.

My family is extremely rich. I thought we had been over this. Panama = 22% taxes. Benz had 18k in taxes alone.

I took a turn and the car slipped. Completely lost traction. Wasn't even fast. Airbags didnt deploy but the whole front end ended up in a tree. New exhaust, headlights, bumper, hood, wheel, and some other things. It's going to be a total loss though knowing how things work in the 3rd world.

I wouldn't trust myself with a V8.
