It's been a very long time since we've talked about the isolator issue.

It's made me think of a question. It relates to whether or not noise, in and of itself, with a solid isolator regardless of manufacturer, creates any potential for damage.

I remember that the reason that the original OEM spring-type isolator was eventually decided upon to pose a potential damage issue due to metal particles created as the spring wore into the isolator. That's my memory at least.

Turn the page, and today we have solid isolators, of differing designs and perhaps differing materials, that don't contain the metal spring, so damaging particles can't be created. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If it's the elimination of the metal particles that was the original worry for us, and not really the noise (symptom v disease), are we sure that any noise created by a new solid isolator will cause any damage potential to our engines?

I may be missing something. Possibly the design of the Eaton SC is such that it will always produce some noise from the isolator, but does it matter if the spring is gone?

Thoughts?

Ive always just figured any noise with solid iso was just a little movement of the coupler sliding on the shaft, which in theory would harm nothing imo

I have 21,000 miles on mine it slightly rattled at idle when it had 1500 mi. and it has not changed. I have not changed the coupler, if it ever starts squealing then I'll just replace the blower. It also has a 22% lower ring and I run it hard at the strip. Still sounds the same as it did when I first noticed it around break in. GM voided my warranty and would not replace mine. No worries.

Keep in mind that the same TSB that described the process for replacing the SC due to the dreaded marble rattle and extended the warranty to 120k miles, also described the 'flutter' that will still be audible with the new SC at certain rpm's and load levels.
