Believe me, I'm all about cross shopping. I just need a second contender to enter the fray. I just wish LMC would be a little quicker about getting their offering to market. I know there are others in that range; 3-series, Audi's A4, etc. However, I am a bit partial to buying domestic. Which is why I need LMC to offer a counterpoint to ATS.

Chief engineer said their target weight loss goal was 200lbs. I can get the link if you like. While saying "our target weight loss goal is 200lbs" is not officially setting in stone that he said IT WILL BE 200LBS lighter it would just be a huge kick to the nuts with him saying that and it ends up 300lbs heavier. I don't think any educated person thought that the new Mustang would be lighter trim for trim after seeing the dimensions.

If the Mustang weights are true that would give GM a chance to really stick it to them.
I totally agree that it is now GM's battle to lose (if the rumor holds true)but I can promise you that if the new Mustang ended up at 3600lbs the new Camaro would be better than the Mustang ending up at 3900lbs.

We know exactly what parts are going to be in the new motor so at best it will have 444HP. A 24HP gain is not going to overcome 300lbs + heavier rotating mass items like wheels, tires ,brakes, IRS, ect. Trust me it could be a disaster as far as acceleration performance goes.

In all seriousness can you imagine if the rumor does hold true? It would be a huge black eye for Ford fans considering all the fat pig flak the Camaro gets from them. However, I am a little skeptical of the rumor. Yes it was released by Steeda but I'm wondering if it was on purpose so that the real weight gain of 100-150lbs doesn't seem so bad. I just don't see Ford crucifying themselves with a 300lb weight gain.

I should have thrown in the word Performance.

As usual, take it with a grain of salt.

That said, I still expect a weight gain....but not 2 - 3 hundred lbs.

If it was closer to 300 lbs that would be a huge black eye for Ford fans. But we all know how a well executed, but heavy chassis can perform (1LE, ZL1, Z/28 anyone?) so I still have no doubt that it handles well.

Don't tell mustang fans that! Because they want 0-60 performance , not handling!

As vague as it is, something-SOMEWHERE mentioned a power increase. On both models (3.7/5.0) to make up for the weight increase. But I don't remember if they said it was an increase right away, or a year or 2 after. Forget what website I read it on, fwiw anyway.
Thanks,
Jason

I wouldn't be surprised if the 2016 or 2017 5.0 was direct injected with about 460HP but the 2015 Mustang GT will have no more than 444HP and that wouldn't be nearly enough to offset the weight of 200-300 lbs. 100lbs yeah but not the rumored bombshell of fat Larry hiding in your trunk.

200-300 sounds extreme, but it's going to gain weight. As has been said, all the stuff they're adding to it has weight.

You could have just stopped at "I have my Terminator"

They were claiming it was faster then the Boss 302 around the track, so unless the track has pot holes at every corner, it should also make more power to offset the weight. I'm gonna guess at least 450hp on the S550.

I've been saying since they said it was going to lose 200 pounds that no way in hell that will happen. I was even more sure when they said wheelbase will stay the same. Unless they threw a ton of lightweight material at it and priced it as much as the new M4/M3, no chance of it being lighter then the S197. If it's gonna be that heavy, I would rather have a small block under the hood, as long as Chevy fixes the visibility and my head hitting the roof over bumps in the Camaro.

that much extra weight isn't going to translate very well with the feminine powerband of the 5.0.

..think Ford's trying to sell HP#s to overshadow the weight gain. In the end, statistics virtually the same as the previous year's model, albeit the aesthetics(and few mods)..

I think it will have more than 444hp in 2015. Its getting all the internals of the roadrunner engine with better flowing heads, revised intake, and bigger cams. I would be shocked if it had less hp than the roadrunner engine.
