I got a ticket for noise pollution in my '93 Mazda mini truck when I was a teen. The Monza tip and muffler delete made that angry 90 hp 2.2 ltr I4 roar to loud for the officer!

I call that a "fishing trip". I worked nights at a restaurant as a kid. Late one night I'm pulling out of the parking lot. I see the two Eaton County cops across the street, and think nothing of it. I don't get fifty feet down Grand River Ave before they're on me. Both cars. They gave no excuse for pulling me over, ran my paperwork, performed an illegal search of my car for drugs (which I never had anything to do with.), and when they couldn't find anything to nail me on, they ripped my license plate off. (69 Camaro-spring loaded frame over gas cap) They wrote on the ticket that it was hanging upside down when they pulled me over!
It was a fix-it ticket, so after I popped the spring back in, I took it to Bath Police Chief, retired Detroit cop, Gene Reno. He was a great guy. He inspected my car and restored my faith in law enforcement when he said "You shoulda' asked them why they weren't out catching robbers. That's what they always said to me!"

Brilliant. There are no cops that own Camaros...... Not a single one..... And they don't post here.... Or moderate..... OP: Best of luck. Get your equipment issues corrected and enjoy that car. |

Not sure that I would describe a 2.2 liter sans muffler as a "roar".... more of an angry rattling vibration from a tin can...

Not claimin' it always works, yet a little grease sometimes eases the wheels of justice. A few dollars given in a non-derogatory fashion (no required recognition of the quid pro quo that is actually happening) can smooth over some rough patches.
I know of a couple of friends and acquaintances who have enjoyed successful outcomes this way (some in other states). In a couple of instances, it was the cop who suggested the remedy. Perhaps, it wouldn't have worked here, just sayin'... |

I like how a cop is always described as a "dick" when they are doing their job... We may not like it, but enforcing the laws of their jurisdiction is their job. To the op, sorry you got tagged. It can really ruin a day.

Wow 2 pages, I was gone for couple of days and this thread lived on...
Thank you all for your comments...especially... JohnnyComeLately - Scooby Doo Mystery - LoL steelrfan - thanx Smirnoff - yes maybe, but my shoelace would've had to have been stuck or something...the burn lasted too long for a simple foot slip. Never insult someones intelligence with poorly thought out lies. HookemHorns (as well as others) - I am definitely fighting the tickets, that's what the system is for. The car inspected clean when I bought it... ffrcobra_65 - I did laugh out loud when I read that but alas...see bribery below... PorsheDude - Yep, I've seen that video...that guy was an UBER D!(k. But they're (aholes that is) among us all - unfortunately that means law inforcement gets their share too. NYJETSFAN - Yes I am, and thanx. Steve Dallas - I agree with you and I am curious too...His first words to me were (as loudly as he could and still maintain a clear voice): "THE REASON I PULLED YOU OVER WAS BECAUSE YOU HAVE AN ILLEGALLY MODIFIED EXHAUST AND AN IMPROPER LICENSE PLATE COVER. DO YOU THINK WE SIT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE WE LIKE IT??? My response was: "Sir, it REALLY had nothing to do with you or the accident scene. I was frustrated because the lady ahead of me was keeping a 30 to 35 car length following distance and then she went from our 15 mph roll to stopped as we cleared the accident scene so she could rubberneck" At that point he demanded my paperwork (which I was already digging out). I am still not sure what exactly set him off but he was visibly angry. I speculate the sound caught him off guard and he jumped...which would have been embarassing...??? Who knows....? With envy - Yes they were clearly discretionary tickets. I have been pulled over in the car several times (front tag, Camaros were still just out and I was waiting for my front plate bracket - got yanked 4 times in three weeks warnings all around) and have never had one officer mention my exhaust until now. Scrappy Doo - thank you for your sentiments. Ivas, Ivas, Ivas - No offense but - What country are you from and how long have you been here? As SnowVert has pointed out - that is called 'bribery', is a felony, and is just plain not a wise thing to attempt in the United States. I hope you heed our warnings because, in addition to being illegal, it is considered an insult to officers here and will probably result in additional 'discretionary' charges. Thanks to all again, and 'keep it between the ditches' SSN8R |

Op, let me guess, you were on Rt 50 or 301/50? Those couple Troopers over there have their hands full with that area... while I won't say it rises to the level of say I-95 thru Philly, people are hustling thru that area and they have some pretty nasty crashes along there. I can't say I've never been there (trapped behind someone slow).... but sometimes frustration gets the better of us all. Its hard to say positively why you got hammered on sooo hard without the officer here to explain himself, but I am pretty sure he thought you were driving like an a--. I will say one thing, coming from the professional side, your loud exhaust may have given him the impression that you were going alot faster than the you were supposed to (cudos for leveling off at the limit by the way). Think about this though.... you have at least one officer thats already dealing with an accident- a harmful event maybe likely with injury... To some of us on the job, we freakin' hate dealing with accidents, especially me
, then you get someone who comes thru the scene and blasts away just after the scene knowing there are officers in the area.... So yeah they were probably a little frustrated and maybe he thought you were being a little disrespectful (if you get my meaning... especially with the above faster than you were comment above "AWW, so he thinks no one is watching him scream away") I have felt this way when someone smashes on the gas after they pass me while running LIDAR. Unfortunately, some don't realize I can hit them while traveling away from me as well as coming toward me....and if they go too fast then I bust'em.Can't say that I would have yelled at someone for a traffic violation even on a bad day, unless you got awfully close to hitting me or another officer/ safety worker at the scene. My advice is.....take your vehicle through inspection and bring your paperwork to court (if it passes)....if not make the necessary corrections and take the matter to court anyway. Most likely, the prosecutor will dismiss a majority of the charges. And next time........wait a little longer before you stretch..huh? AND don't worry all.....we aren't jealous of anyones ride..... cause either we own something nice too or we don't really give a s--- about the kind car we or anyone else drives.
