100 lb difference will help...all the ss has to do is get to about 480-490 crank to make it a drivers race.

There ya go. Where it mentions it on the ZR1 and where it talks about the rear was adapted to go in the Camaro.

We have a local drag strip here that you can make all the runs you want for $20.00. Several guys in the Mustang Club go regularly and we had some surprises.

The strip is 1/8 mile not 1/4 which makes a big difference and one of the guys has a nice V-6 and takes a lot of crap from the GT owners. So he agreed to run some of them and lo and behold he beat them.

What happened is that he had virtually no tire spin coming off the start, is an excellent driver, makes near perfect shifts and beat all of the GTs by a length or more.

Just goes to show you a lot depends on traction, distance raced and how good the driver is. I would suspect that under the right conditions a Camaro could beat a GT-500 under a 1/4 mile.

The V-6 guy does not take much crap these days.

Steve

There is no reference to the Camaro in the article that you posted.

Personally, I'd be too busy enjoying my new SS to spend any time worrying about "who's faster".

There'll always be someone faster than your SS.

There'll always be someone faster than your friends GT500.

Etc., etc., etc.....

Maybe it's just getting older, but I don't base how good my cars are based on whether they can beat some one who feels it necessary to race me to validate their cars superiority.

Enjoy what you drive and don't worry about "who's faster".

I could care less what's faster than my car, which, nowadays,is alot. All i care about is if it puts a smile on my face on my daily commute and if i can't stop looking at it when i walk away from parking it. I just love the sound of when i start it up,numbers don't give people goosebumps.

Thanks for the link but it doesnt address the strength of the axles just that the engineering to prevent wheelhop had been incorporated into the camaro project. I hope the axles in the camaro are heavy duty, 4000lbs and sticky tires is gonna be really hard on them.

yup, sure does. but a bigger one might be in order if you swap the rest of the exhaust out.

It is my mission in life to beat Fords..no other way around it..and if the Camaro isnt doing it, my bank account will feel the burden until it is up to par....but I have nice little 2 seater just in case the blue oval gets to comfortable...had a build Ford GT(not the mustang) give me fits before but we ended up 2-2

Damn posting at 5am after no sleep since 4am the previous day will make ya post some goofy shit...sorry guys Cant seem to find the likn where I found it. Does make since the half shafts would be the same for both. Sharing the parts and saving cash is a priority for GM right now. Both are 40mm on one and 33 on the other so why make two different ones for two cars. Just take what you are already manufacturing and install. When I have more time will find.

According to the Camaro literature, the SS has 14.4" rear rotors and 4-piston rear calipers, but if the front brakes bear the majority of the load when braking, I'm not sure why they would have larger rear brakes than front brakes.
Maybe the rear parking brakes are inside the drum of the rotor too, like the last generation. It would make sense they need a larger rotor to make room for the caliper and parking brake mechanism. I don't know for sure though... I don't have good enough pics' that confirm this or not.

I think it only mentions the transfer of the technology, not that they are interchangable. It would make sense to not make four different driveshafts, like you mentioned, but there is no statement here they are the same. We know they're doing the same thing, but I think that's about it. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry
