Whats with the whole tinting thing anyway? I dont get it. Why not go for the full effect and just get a Jetta, lower it, get yourself a beanie, hoodie and baseball hat while youre at it.

tint laws are ****ing stupid. I understand the whole idea behind the law in that cops want to be protected from douchebags in cars with guns. I mean what's the % of people getting pulled over being a drug dealer or violent criminal who would shoot a cop? Anybody have #'s on this? 5% maybe? So those 5% of people **** it up for the rest of us? That doesn't seem right. I see unmarked cop cars with super dark tint all the time. Why is that cool while dark tint on mine is not?

Really, if the cop pulls somebody over for window tint and it turns out they're just a normal Joe or Jane and not a drug dealer or violent criminal, why not just let them about their business? Writing a $200 ticket for that is a dick move. At that point, it's just about generating money for the city.

Darth, you frequently have great posts and this is very out of character for you... this is an extreme low for you.

So 5% of cops that get shot or killed is just the cost of business that is justified that YOU should have darker tint? Wow, man... wow

Unmarked and K9 vehicles are the only vehicles permitted federally to no tint restrictions. Do you really have to ask why? Unmarked.. undercover? Hairy ass dogs for the heat?

I am just going to assume this is not you thinking logically, and you are just having a bad week, drunk, or both. Because, again, you are typically one of the better posters on here.

excuse my arrogance, but what do the % mean? Is 20% tint mean that the glass is darkened 20%, or it is darkened so that only 20% of light gets in (therefore darkened to 80%)?

20% of light can penetrate the lens or glass.... most states run around 25-30% which is VERY fair.

So, lets make vehicles without any back windows or trucks with a shell on the back illegal since a cop cannot see in it. Why should tint be discriminated against?

Nice...

Apples to Oranges. Tint restrictions in FL and many other states for the rear window are only 15%. You cannot see through 15% at night.

I don't care about a rear window.. I care about front side windows.

I can see your point there!! I was mainly talking about the rear. I think 35% looks great on the side windows and people still can generally see inside them and is legal in a lot of states.

Tints laws by state, 70% is stock tint.
BTW, primary legal intention for no front side window tint is traffic safety. Making eye contact with other driver's is more difficult behind tint. Tint laws have nothing to do with the safety of officers, although that is an unintended side benefit. If officer safety was the intention of tint laws, windowless cargo vans would be illegal.

Agreed.. 25-40 looks fantastic. I do not stop people until 20%. I do not write tickets until less than 10%...

It is a matter of principle though, I feel we are all fully aware of the restrictions and we tint anyways. If we get the citation, that is no one's fault but out own and a cop shouldn't expect a break because he is one... that is the basis of this thread it appears..

True. I follow my state tint laws (Florida) although they are one of the most lenient. I just have an issue that when I goto Virginia, I will take a chance on getting a ticket for the tint even though it is legal in my own state. Then one hears a comment that it is for making them safer. I agree it may make the officer safer but come on. My tint is not that dark.

Sorry for the thread jack!!

You have 20% tint... which is illegal here in Central FL which is where your status says you live. (hope I am still following... I am a little stupid).

From what I gather, and someone for GA may correct me, 20% is illegal there as well...

You drove through a state with illegal tint, FLORIDA.. left the state... entered another state where that level of tint is STILL illegal, GEORGIA... and you reply with the whole "cops are a-holes there". Why are they a-holes? Because they enforce traffic laws mandated by people who are NOT cops? GA state troopers are notorious for being strict.. that doesn't make them jerks. You man is a cop and you STILL drop that line?

You are trying to get a ticket dismissed because.... why? Because your boyfriend didn't get the ticket. So you want the cop to illegally issue him the ticket? GA state laws hold the driver and the driver ONLY responsible for equipment violations.. the only ticket a passenger can receive in regards to vehicle issue is EXPIRED TAG. That is all...

.... here is where my sympathy for you ends. You have illegal tint here where you live, YOUR BOYFRIEND KNEW IT WAS ILLEGAL and he pissed at a cop for following proper protocol and restrictions that he HAS TO FOLLOW and your b/f does the ...exact....same.... job. With your logic, a drug dealer could buy a car.. tint the windows illegally and sit passenger and no one should ever be ticketed? Because legally that cop CANNOT issue him one. That same dealer can buy 5 cars, tint them all illegally.. but never drive and no one gets a ticket because they aren't the owners?

.... I apologize if I come off rude or disrespectful, just not a fan of having people say cops are a-holes for doing their jobs. Jobs mandated and funded by civilians... and the kicker is, he is an LEO who knew better than anyone what he did was illegal. Have your boyfriend pay YOUR ticket, it is a non moving violation. No points... no insurance involvement so no rate increase... You and he both tinted your cars knowing it was at illegal levels.. I am sorry, but move on with life. A sgt should not have the capability to recall a citation. It is the officer's call and his alone until court...

If my wife gets a ticket with or without me in the vehicle as she drives my camaro, I will pay her ticket.. and I will know it was my fault and mine alone.

... here is the reality in the situation. Your boyfriend doesn't think he should have gotten the ticket... your boyfriend thinks because he was a cop NO ONE should have gotten a ticket. I invite either of you to tell me I am wrong. Pay to play...

+1
