For future reference you may be able to get a prescription from an optometrist for tinted windows if you have sensitive eyes. You would then leave the script in the glove compartment w/ your registration and insurance.

Let me see if I am following this correctly...

You have 20% tint... which is illegal here in Central FL which is where your status says you live. (hope I am still following... I am a little stupid).

From what I gather, and someone for GA may correct me, 20% is illegal there as well...

You drove through a state with illegal tint, FLORIDA.. left the state... entered another state where that level of tint is STILL illegal, GEORGIA... and you reply with the whole "cops are a-holes there". Why are they a-holes? Because they enforce traffic laws mandated by people who are NOT cops? GA state troopers are notorious for being strict.. that doesn't make them jerks. You man is a cop and you STILL drop that line?

You are trying to get a ticket dismissed because.... why? Because your boyfriend didn't get the ticket. So you want the cop to illegally issue him the ticket? GA state laws hold the driver and the driver ONLY responsible for equipment violations.. the only ticket a passenger can receive in regards to vehicle issue is EXPIRED TAG. That is all...

.... here is where my sympathy for you ends. You have illegal tint here where you live, YOUR BOYFRIEND KNEW IT WAS ILLEGAL and he pissed at a cop for following proper protocol and restrictions that he HAS TO FOLLOW and your b/f does the ...exact....same.... job. With your logic, a drug dealer could buy a car.. tint the windows illegally and sit passenger and no one should ever be ticketed? Because legally that cop CANNOT issue him one. That same dealer can buy 5 cars, tint them all illegally.. but never drive and no one gets a ticket because they aren't the owners?

.... I apologize if I come off rude or disrespectful, just not a fan of having people say cops are a-holes for doing their jobs. Jobs mandated and funded by civilians... and the kicker is, he is an LEO who knew better than anyone what he did was illegal. Have your boyfriend pay YOUR ticket, it is a non moving violation. No points... no insurance involvement so no rate increase... You and he both tinted your cars knowing it was at illegal levels.. I am sorry, but move on with life. A sgt should not have the capability to recall a citation. It is the officer's call and his alone until court...

If my wife gets a ticket with or without me in the vehicle as she drives my camaro, I will pay her ticket.. and I will know it was my fault and mine alone.

... here is the reality in the situation. Your boyfriend doesn't think he should have gotten the ticket... your boyfriend thinks because he was a cop NO ONE should have gotten a ticket. I invite either of you to tell me I am wrong. Pay to play...

The police officer *might* have given professional courtesy if your boyfriend was driving. Is that why he was bent out of shape? I'm retired and never once flipped open the old wallet with the badge. If you're in the wrong...you are in the wrong.

In Ca, some folks put illegal tint on their car so you can't see them holding a cell phone, texting or not wearing a seat belt. Some driver's also like to watch you without you knowing it. Some driver's like the anonymity tint gives.
As a general practice, I give what is commonly called "professional courtesy" to other LEO's. Some people (including arrogant cops) can talk themselves into a ticket. This is probably what occurred here. Would be nice if we heard the story as told by the GA cop.
In Ca, illegal tint is a correctable offense. Dismissed upon proof correction and paying a $25 fee.

that is a bad ticket, a very bad one, they cant issue a ticket for tint if you arent registered in that state, unless there are some screwed up laws in georgia, up in ny tint laws can not be enforced on other state vehicles, it had been proven in court many many times

+1..

this has nothing to do with her boyfriend wanting the ticket... this has everything to do with her boyfriend thinking they shouldn't get one because he was LEO. Sorry brother.. bite the bullet and move on. When I get my ticket for running 20%, I will tip my hat and I will pay. Not the cops fault... no one but MINE.

I try to extend professional courtesy to active/retired military, nurses, teachers, cops... hell I average two tickets a week.. so I extend it to almost everyone. I am not assigned to traffic, but some cops can be overly aggressive and easily walk their way into a citation. I am curious the demeanor on scene after you received the citation...

Ever wonder why trafficking and stolen vehicles are so high per the rate of your population in NY, NJ, and Cali? That law is why...

Again, with that logic, I can put a kilo in my trunk and you cannot enforce my illegal tint with my FL tag which means you cannot get my trunk...? Think outside the box, brother.

It is not a bad ticket, because it is illegal regardless of state in GA. Nor is she fighting that issue...

If you have tint that is legal for your place of residence, then I would fight it. However, your tint is illegal there too. I really don't see your argument. I've never heard of the passenger getting the ticket.

$197 is bad enough. Here in Arizona that same ticket would run you $450. Then you have to have the tint pulled off and replaced with legal tint. Not worth it.

We all are made aware when we get tint from anywhere about the legal % of tint.. yet we do it anyway.. pay the ticket and call it a day.. BF being a cop or no cop.. You shouldn't fight a ticket on that basis.. The cop who gave you the ticket was an asshole yes but just pay it.. I mean we all know what we are in for when we illegally do things.. Myself included..

I gotta agree with Brantley847. I have lived in Ga for over 10 years, specifically the Savannah area. They are all very by the book and really don't show any sympathy. Saying that I want to say that I am also LEO and work with some of these guys daily. Most are very nice but they take their job very serious. You all have to remember that alot of drugs come thru this state from lower Florida and these guys don't play. It sucks for you with the ticket but even as LEO my tint is legal. Just my two cents. Good luck.

That level is illegal in Florida..she stated she (and the owner) knew it was at the time of installation.

Get real ! This is a hard one to believe for someone from N.Y. City.
When I lived on L.I. N.Y. I had many friends and relatives on the job- Brooklyn, NYC, Nassau County, etc and no one, and I mean no one with a badge, or a wife or a girlfriend, etc ever got a ticket.
Find me any patrol officer with a speeding conviction on their license near N.Y. City and I'd surely be suprised. I bet this goes for most of the country.
I had many PBA cards and got a pass if I was stopped for a minor infraction. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sorry for jacking the thread.
