While you are right on the G6's and G5's ...Pontiac has always been the "Upscale" Chevrolet. Look at F-bodies of every generation. Pontiac had a more performance minded car versus the camaro...while the trans am wouldn't totally murder a camaro...the firebird would pull ahead a little bit. And also not to mention that the pontiacs are always the more expensive. I still dont think that buick should stay as one of GM's 4 main brands...they aren't awesome...good cars...but pontiac have AWESOME cars.

I just don't agree with GM possibly pullin pontiac out completely.

Still think GM only needs 2 brands in NA. Chevy and Cadi. Buick can live on in Asia.

They're not getting rid of Pontiac in that sense.

Right now, the vast majority of all Buick, Pontiac and GMC dealers are all under one roof. And they've been set up to compliment each other's lineups: Buick has...what, 3-4 cars and one crossover? And GMC has a few trucks. Together with Pontiac...these three acted as one single brand with three names. The management structure reflected that as well.

Now, Pontiac will be turned into a niche brand selling only 1-3 cars. They'll all be high-feature, high-excitement cars; like the G8 and Solstice. (In fact, those are two of the 3 expected to survive the shrink).

They can do this because Pontiac dealers share space with Buick/GMC dealers. And if you notice -- they list those two as "core" brands. So Pontiac the nameplate may not get advertised or even exist as it's own brand, but those cars will, and they'll be housed with the Buicks and GMCs.

I agree with you on the history of Pontiac but thats history not today. No matter how hard they try, a G3 will never be consided to be any more upscale than an Aveo. Dito with the Torrent vs Equinox. If Pontiac were to be reduced to only sporty cars, I think everyone will be happy. But their current mainstream offerings leave a lot to be desired.
