Be sure your sound is on for this.

Quite frankly, one of the BEST pieces of advertising I have seen in my 47 years.

This was released at launch. They have been competing with the BMW 5 series since the get-go.

The fact that they name the vehicle before asking if I'm surprised made me miss the point the first few times I've seen them. No, I'm not surprised GM makes the GMC truck I would think. However, after seeing this thread, I understand what they're trying to get across, I just think it could have been done a little more cleanly.

the mags are calling the g8 gxp, "a M5 with better steering for half the price" that statement alone says they are definately into BMW's league with the g8

I think the G8 is a friggin sweet car. If I didn't get my preorder, my backup plan was a G8 GT. Let some guy pay double the money for a car that is less powerful and gets worse milage just because it has leather seats made from baby seal butts and the guys at the country club all have one.
Its all about what you want though, I guess. I mean a $100,000 ZR1 is faster than a $300,000 dollar Ferrari; but if you want to be able to pick what color of leather your shift knob is gonna have while you listen to the opera on your 25 speaker audio system and little midgets rub your back and pour you champagne, get the Ferrari. Personally, I would put up with a normal interior and save the 200 K.
Back in the day, BMWs were a lot like the G8. Solid performance cars with a good build quality and a not obscene price. Now they have gone way upscale.
More cars like the G8 please.

yep they became this luxury brand when in fact they use to be pretty much what pontiac is....and now their prices are outrageous....and the owners ? let me not go there.

on the 3 series forum they actually had a thread called "yea the ________ is faster but it cant fit a set of golfclubs in the back?"

that right there is rediculous.

Yeah, I am also really dissapointed there isn't a wine cooler in the G8's armrest console, I need a place to keep my grey pupon cool.

I love the Saturn commercial where the fellow walks into the showroom and look around, then has to double-check the sign out front to make sure he's in a Saturn dealership. That was brilliant, because the brand really did improve it's styling the last 2 years or so.

Too bad the brand is on it's way out.

Yeah! that's what I was talking about when I started this thread. The Saturn commercial make the same "surprised" statement, without implying that up until now everything they made was garbage.

I understand what they are trying to say, I just think they could do it in a fashion that doesn't seem so convicting.

One of the common gripes about GM is that they hadn't truly acknowledged their issues. These commercials surely do that.

The commercials aren't aimed towards people that have their hearts set on a 5 series. The commercials are for people that are looking at 1 series, 3 series, nissan sedans, toyota sedans, etc. What GM wants them to stop and think about is "I could get this Nissan Maxima for 30k, or I could get a G8 for the same price which beats a 5 series in many categories. Kind of makes that Maxima seem insignificant" They are pushing the "bang for the buck" argument by comparing it to a vehicle nearly twice its MSRP. I think it is very effective.

GM's marketing team has been slow at the switch for decades now. Anyone remember a marketing ad for the 4th gen Camaro or Firebird? Didn't think so.

I couldn't help it.

First thing that popped in my head when I read that was those old Budweiser commercials with the three frogs.

I see steamy streets...a stoplight...and lots of revving. Then the light blows up.

Hum I could make a slideshow of all kinds of stuff like optisparks, dex cool rott, melted gaskets, broken seat handles, then put "Made by GM... Surpised?".

To me it's a hobby to fix GM defects. I enjoy it.
