just get a stock cavaliar..

as sad as that sounds, the stick will get very annoying over a while, and my mother has a stock camaro and the thing does the job just fine.

now if your wanting pizazz and such, then go ahead and get the SS; problem is it may be hard to resell (trade-in shouldn't be too hard, but be weary of the 25% price drop may be a canada-wide thing, who knows?)..but your choice.

im bumping my 1991 honda civic 4 door with about 35mpg and i drive roughly 400miles a week, so filing up once every two weeks or so for 20$ US (alternating from midgrade to premium)...ooh man its fun....prior to the gas drop it was roughly 35$ a week

Well, how long until you want to buy a Camaro? If you want it sooner rather than later, why not buy something used and put your money in a CD or high yield savings account?

The Cobalt turbo will cost 2x as much as the cars I've been looking at, it will also have about 2x the power as well. The other side of things is that it will also have some resale value in a couple years. I'm planing on waiting a while to get my Camaro, 2011 or so. Enough time for insurance to drop, bugs to be worked out, and possibly gen V engines and blue SS's. Until this past weekend when my brother told me about this dealership (its only them that are doing this that we know of), the front runner is a 2005 Grand Am GT - with a year or two and 50 000 miles still on the warranty. It was going to become my winter car when I get my Camaro.

I will swing by the dealership tomorrow night to see if that Cobalt is still there.

As a Cobalt SS driver, I say get the SS....

For the price, and level of performance that you get you can't beat the Cobalt SS!

I actually plan on buying a 09 Cobalt SS Turbocharged more than likely next summer instead of buying a V6 Camaro, and then in a few years buying a Camaro SS...

Although from not knowing your $ situation buying something alot cheaper to hold you off until you can get a SS would be a lot better.

One potential problem: The re-sale on the Cobalts aren't very good. So if you plan on owning it for a few years and dumping it, you may not be happy with the re-sale value of it three years from now...

But if you want something new, and fun, for the price the Cobalt SS owns...

The 09 SS turbo has a TON of potential. with just an intake/exhaust, charge piping and a tune, people are seeing 300HP and 350TQ to the wheels. These cars are gonna start hitting 12's fairly easily. And the aftermarket is just starting to pick up.

Another "vote" for getting the Cobalt SS.

The car has recevied great reviews in the car "rags", and seeing them in person, they're pretty bada@@ looking too.

waste of money. Those piuses have held their value because of high gas prices, which negates the point of getting something fuel efficient for 2-3 years. I average 38 mpg in that little Saturn. That includes rush hour traffic. If I buy a hybrid I might save 10% on gas, perhaps 15% against something more . . . interesting. So for me, its hardly worth it. Plus repairs and maintenance are very expensive on those.

Oh some of you may be wondering why am I getting rid of that Saturn? Well its getting on in age and mileage and the family doesn't have a spare car at the moment. They will get their car back (they bought it back in 1998) and it will be their second car, again. I'm planning on to getting something that is more than an A to B commuter car, but still gets good mileage. Thats what led me to the Grand Am, and the Cobalt Turbo also fits the bill

Can you prove this? It sounds amazing, but I also know for a fact that the Getrag F-23 transmission in the SS/TC is not built to handle much more power than the car puts down stock. I think it's rated at barely more than 270hp. Plus, with that much power and torque, it would already be a twelve second car. Just wondering where you are getting your information, because this statement seems a little fishy.

I vote Cobalt SS, but there is something else to think about... have you ever driven an HHR SS? they are basically the new Cobalt SS with 4drs and a huge trunk... they're available in auto and they get decent gas mileage... you'd get all of the advantages of the Cobalt SS with all of the space of a 4dr car and all of the extra room that comes with the HHR... its a pretty win little vehicle, from what we can tell of driving the 2 or 3 that we've gotten to.

but if you're looking for fun and sporty on a budget, the Cobalt SS is really hard to beat.

Yeah, i can find the info, and the Tranny for the SC cobalts, (not sure if it was the f-23) was only rated at 260-270-ish, but its been pushed over 400 without problems. Gimme a sec to find a thread over on a cobalt forum. the info is all there.

ok, found it, i was off by a bit in terms of mods.

"well just got back from the Dyno with FF_Ace's car.

Baseline stock pulls were 215/246. After tune and intercooler, charge pipes, and catless DP the power was 297.5fwhp and 346.7fwtq

This is on 91 octane"

and heres the link.

I agree that it should already be a 12 second car, but as far as i know this car hasnt seen the track yet, and the owner is new to the drag strip.

Fantastic then. I knew there had to be more beef in that tranny than it was rated at.
