It's all good. I just find it funny that you post flaming the chevy truck and the pic you post to prove you four wheel has all chevy's in it. although I will say check your window sticker because if you didn't order a locker on your chevy it will suck just as bad as your toyota in bad weather.

Dont get me wrong...I think my truck is awesome towing the trailer...I can haul @ss up most hills doing 70+ mph towing 10k lbs...The power and suspension is great. I just wish they would have paid as much attention to detail in other areas like comfort and quality.

Come to Pa sometime I'll show you what four wheeling really is. Good luck with your toyota. I hope the throttle doesn't hang open.

I see you have the older one. The new ones are much better on the things you were saying about. I do agree with you on the seats in the year you have ,they are bad.

Now your talking. Come back to pa we'll put your toyota to the test. I just went to Wellsboro two weeks ago to look at leaves. Great place. Get a Locker for your toyota and you'll have something.

I don't believe Chevy is using a true locker, aren't they using the Eaton set up? <-I could be wrong on that.

Toyota does offer a true locking differential. Neither of those vehicles appeared to be set up with true lockers or at least the locker wasn't engaged (it's an electronic locker on the Toyota). You engage a locker and the left and right will spin at basically the exact same speed.

You don't want a locker for a performance car because a locker will bind up on the inside wheel when you go around a corner. It will drive you nuts. Most systems will engage a gear electronically now (like Toyota), some use air when you click a switch so you don't use them full time. The detroit locker style will click at you as the gears ratchet at different speeds- it's awful for daily use.

Some people are going to flip when I say this, but the thing that I noticed was that the Toyota kept the tires on the ground while the Chevy was always hanging a rear tire. If you engaged the locker on that Toyota you'd likely be in a much better position for 4wheeling.

And the problem with AWD is that it uses a coupling instead of a true gear. What you get is the left wheel goes then it starts to slip then it stops and the right wheel goes and it keeps transferring power back and forth. It's fine for light use but if it's really nasty it will get you in trouble. That gets combined with the brake locker system where the brakes keep doing brake checks on spinning wheels. I've seen AWD vehicles that are actually smoking from the front brakes when they try to get in to places.

I think this test may have been rigged, I'd like to see what the TRD off road package would do with all the goodies engaged.

Any vehicle with a locker a some kind. Is better than without. the more wheels with power the better. The chevy they used didn't have the best package either. It had the smaller tires and wasn't a Z-71. That could have been why the tire came off. Plus the way the frames rust on the tundra I could see it having enough twist to keep all the wheels on the ground.

That could be, maybe a Z71 vs TRD test would be in order? I don't know every Toyota permutation, but they do make some pretty capable off-road vehicles.

Our '05 4runner had a switch that would engage the locker. Actually in snowy conditions this isnt the best option to use because it causes the vehicle to not steer very well and plow rather than turn. Im sure in an off camber situation it comes in handy...Id also like to note it appears the 4wd wasnt engaged when the toy traversed the ditch but the chevy had it engaged.

That would be a better test. Funny thing is ford and dodge would due the same as the toyota. although I believe ford is bringing an electronic locker into there's.
