Thanks to a little option called a locker. Any truck with a locker would perform like the chevy. The great thing is that you can get it from the factory in the chevy. Other companies are starting to see the light.

This brings a question to mind - I understand what a locker does, but why don't they put them in performance cars (like the camaro) instead of limited slips?

Do they have a tendancy to lock up on sharp turns or something?

They do at the track. Some even run a spool. For the everyday driver it might not be a good idea in a car with a lot of power.

Ill be real unpopular with this reply but give it a rest...IMOP Toyota has been and continues to make the best small and 1/2 ton trucks...period. Ive owned them for 20 years and have not had one single problem with the small trucks or the Tundras ive owned. Id still have one but dont because they dont make a 3/4 ton diesel to haul my Toy Hauler. I do however have a GMC 2500 HD and its the biggest POS ive ever owned. 2k miles and it decides to split a tranny line and spew 7 dollar a qt dex 6 all over the underneath of it, the driver window makes a crack like its going to break when I open it and I baby this thing..its got 29k miles on it and gets driven to work and 10 hauls with a 30 ft TH a year. The tie downs in the bed as well as interior controls are engineered completely retarded and the seat is the most uncomfortable thing ive ever riden in. The only thing worth a crap about that truck is the DM...and guess who it was designed by? So what it doesnt have locking diffs...Find the fricken 4wd button and move on.

Limited Slip differential is exactly what it says. Limited slip. It's a clutch assembly with alot of moving parts but it still will slip instead of providing consistant power to your drive wheels.

Without the lockers you don't have a true 4WD. In reality you will have only 2 of the 4 wheels with power if put in a situation shown above. Even with lockers you only get 3 of the 4 wheels and never get the true power to all 4 wheels. And besides the DM, you are forgetting the Allison Transmission. That is the best tranny out there period. In the 10+ years that the allison has been used, my service department has not once had to crack one open for repairs.

You must not due much four wheeling. Nothing beats a locker. I been buying work trucks for over 20 years and have had all makes expect toy -- yota. They don't build a heavy truck. The chevys work great with the locker and are very little problems. I am not a chevy only guy, I just call them like I see them. Why Is the tundra's frame rusting out already. My best friend had the small toyota truck and the frame rusted. That really sounds like quality to me.

Your wifes AWD will engage 3 of the 4 tires.. The Jeep will put power to the front and back drive systems but without the locker you will only have continous power to 1 tire in front and 1 tire in back. With the G80 (locker) you have both back wheels engaged and atleast one of the front.

Well, at least your smart enough to take the chevy. I wouldn't consider a couple of inches of snow backed into a camp ground four wheeling. I've had cars out in places worse than that.

I take my hyundai out on the 3-4 inches of ice that we get here about once or twice a year.

Hills are fun.
