Do you have a buyer? I hope your not upside down in it. Why don't you sell it and buy a car you can pay cash for just until your out of school and have a real job. Don't let people tell you that you have to have a newer car to travel to school. I drove a pinto with 250,000miles everyday to college and back home two hours oneway. If you go with less now you will have more later. I didn't have alot of money in high school or college but hard work and not over spending early on, helped me get what I want today. Your young your day will come.

Not a good Idea, the rich wife will make you sell the camaro for a BMW then a year later kick you out and keep the BMW.

I'm not upside down. I have a few people who are interested, but a local Honda dealership is offering me $28,500 for it. I don't know if I should just get a new, base model Civic or just buy something cash for the $5500 or $6000.

Not sure what a good car would be in that type of price range...

Their are many reliable cars in that price range to get you to and from school.
wouldn't it be nice to not have the worry of a car payment right now.

It would...but I also don't want to worry about having to fix the brakes every other week. Any suggestions at what I should be looking at?

Ok I told him what my wife makes when life is normal around here and how much she made when we got married and how much she made last year. He is going to study and do good in pharmacy school.

Education should always come first and in a field where they currently is a shortage of over 15 thousand pharmacist getting a job is not an issue.

It's not about what kind of car you buy at this point, but getting one that is reliable. In my business, we run work trucks for 300,000miles before we trade them. And, we have very little problems with them. If you don't know what to look for in a used car I would take someone with you that does.

I know, I want something reliable. Just asking which cars in that price range are most reliable...

Hey Ant, been following your threads, it sucks you have to give up your maro but your smart for putting school first. I may be in the same perdicament as you after all. Im 24 and thought i could afford this car in cash but am actually rethinking getting something cheaper and save more of my money for school.

Here are my suggestions, my mom had bought her first new car at age 58 ( 3 years ago) and i helped her shop around for a month in 2005 and she ended up getting a great deal on a mazda6, lowered by mazdaspeed, nice wheels all in the color she wanted and ended up getting a great deal on it. It has been her baby and she loves it to death, very reliable and fun.

Anyway i have also been shopping around before i considered getting the maro and was looking at in my new price range:

mazda3 ( pretty quick little car and can get some great deals if you look around)
civic ( a little quicker but still overpriced) reliable
corolla ( gutless wonder and overpriced) reliable except for those killer floor mats, lol
cevy cobolt ( nice car for the money, i rented one a while back for work) solid, feels like a well balanced little car
ford focus ( slow and lots of oversteer but a nice little car)
subaru impreza ( nice car awd)
mitsu lancer can base out at around 14k new ( great warranty)
hyundai and kia have some cheap little cars and they will be under warranty for the majority of your college so thats something to think about, ALso hyundia is getting alot better with reliability.

there are some good deals on trucks right now but the gas will kill you.

good luck and i hope you find somethin nice that will serve you well through college!

I've got a Cobalt, and I LOVE it....honestly. For the price I paid, and the driving I do...this car is fantastic. Regularly get over 30mpg in mixed driving, it handles competently and rides smooth. Engine/road noise is quiet, and all the interior controls are easy to use. Acceleration is brisk, and cargo/passenger room is exceptional (based on my uses, and opinion). The steering is also electrically boosted, so it's variable: At low speeds (or at a stop), you can turn the wheel from lock-to-lock with your pinkie. At highway speeds, it's less-assisted and as a result it goes arrow-straight if you "let go" of the wheel.

There is ONE little hiccup with it, that I've noticed in 2 years of ownership. The HVAC fan ticks at the lowest speed setting. Nothing loud and obnoxious...it just ticks (a little louder than a clock). Turn on the radio or turn up the fan speed, and it goes away.

Fantastic little car, and I reccomend it to everyone looking in the segment. A friend of mine bought one (with my nudging), and my girlfriend has one. Both share my opinions on the vehicle.

Pharmacy School will be well worth the sacrifice of your current Camaro. You'll be able to by a new top-deck Camaro when your finished with the increase in your pay! Try Carmax for a used car...you can search by $$$ amount.

Just get what you can to get through school. If you are good at your job you'll be making serious money right out of college. My pharmacist friend was making double starting out of college what I was making being a design major.
