vehicle has a different "break in" oil from the factory, they specifically say not to over rev with this oil, it will foam and lose lubrication properties. Wonder if he had his oil changed yet. there is a bulletin about this that comes with the car. So I will assume that there may be a few main bearing failures with people beating on them from the get go.

Seems silly GM would let a performance vehicle out the gate with limits on what it can do during the arbitrary 'break-in' period. It would be like buying a gaming laptop and telling the buyer to not play a game for the first month so the thermal paste on the cpu can properly congeal.

Have you ever read ANY owner's manual? For nearly ANY vehicle? Manufacturers don't go to the bother of publishing a recommended break-in procedure "just for fun". It is NOT an "arbitrary" procedure. That recommended procedure is particularly important for boosted high-horsepower engines, regardless of Manufacturer.

To do otherwise might cause those people to think your "handle" would apply to them...

Until God gets into the engine building business, there will be failures. Even then, he may throw in one or two to teach patience.

Actually, not even close. Having built both computers and engines. A complex mechanical system requiring Tribology at its core vs. just an electronic system that only requires thermodynamics for cooling, usually air cooling at that....unless you are very high end and use liquid cooling which is the other main ingredient in a combustion engine.

And what on God's green Earth makes you say an "arbitrary" break in?

Judging by the people on this site I thought God did build the LT series as well as the LS

LOL

Everyone knows God built the LS engine to rotate the planets and power the sun in our solor system. It just wasn't until the mid 90's that we mere mortals got our hands on 1 and reverse enginered it to go into cars. Geesh even grade schoolers know this.

If I'm going to dump $60+k on a performance vehicle I'm not going to be driving it 55mph for whatever number of miles. Granted, this owner was pushing it real hard for the low miles, but IMHO the car shouldn't shit the bed in such an epic fashion.

I say arbitrary because it's "500" or whatever miles, and at 501 the car is automagically resistant to failure. Yeah, right...

Thankfully, it's going back to GM for failure analysis.
