the sra can take the track fine but any bump in the road will be felt much more than an irs equipped vehicle

Price will be the win or kill in the 5.0 Mustang. But seeing how ford performance vehicles are getting out of the average consumers hand and have gotten a bit overpriced ( Taurus Sho ), my bet is it will be High 30's Starting. 36-40 Grand.

In the past, Ford has kept the price low while offering powerplant upgrades. I don't expect this occasion to be any different. |

At best, expect it to be priced in the same bracket as the Camaro. If they decide to lose the Cologne, and go full Cyclone on their V6 offerings, the Mustang could bump into the 21K range but realistically no more than that for a base. V6 premium (or whatever they decide to call it) being stocked with the Ecoboost 6 in LT/2LT range while the 5.0GT might inch into the 30K range @ about $30,995 to cover costs with the engine upgrade. Again, guesstimates and CONJECTURE guys. ![]() So in the end it could be a wash via price. The war to win over the press on this could be the win-kill for both Camaro and the Mustang. |

Funny thing is, IMO, the Mustang needs a new V6 even more than a power bump to the V8. Apparently the next mustang , in a few years, is still going to have live axle.

Rumor has it that the current LRA setup is actually slightly MORE to produce than an IRS, but I'm not certain about that. With Ford doing the optional track pack, it's not inconceivable that they'd at least offer IRS as an option. |

*looks at Camaro* Yeah.. Look how that turned out? ![]() They're probably going to dump the Cologne for the Cyclone in the base while tossing the Cyclone based Ecoboost into the uptrim V6 premium. Seriously, the Cologne is getting freaking old.. I have it in CHRISTINE for christs sakes! Only real saving grace to the SRA (aside from Ford doing Alchemy on it) is that it's cheap and easy to fix as opposed to the gobledygook that makes up an IRS. Ride might be nice but hammer on it with more than it's specced and.. My only fear about the Camaro, but it's not stopping me from putting it at Number one over the Stang..while the Chally is bringing up the rear.

Yeah, i am suprised Ford is upping the ante. We all know in the 90s they didn't even try to compete with Chevy. The people bought underpowered mustangs, so why should they care if the Camaro had them outgunned?

I have serious doubts there will be an Ecoboosted V6 unless Ford plans to take the V8 upmarket...which I don't think they're ready to do yet (unless the mustang GT is putting some serious hurt on their CAFE numbers? I doubt it)
The only way an EB V6 makes sense (that turbo ain't cheap) is if Ford plans a 36k+ (or so) V8, and a 45k+ shelby, and slots it for the 28k+ slot the GT currently occupies. I don't think Ford is ready for that landmine, so I just suspect we'll see a regular 3.7 V6, probably bumped up slightly in price (they have the headroom for it), and a 5.0 V8 (again, probably slightly more expensive than the outgoing GT, but in line with the Camaro and the Chally RT).

The Duratec 35 Cyclone from the Edge is stated to put out 265hp/250lbft. The Duratec 37 Cyclone from the MKS is stated to put out 275hp/276lbft or 272hp/269lbft when sourced from a Mazda 6. This isn't anything to sneeze at, so even the battle of the V6 cars could get interesting. Not to mention a V6 Mustang may not even rise in price if they move to the cyclone engine. Could be the rationale for GM's pondering another engine choice for the base Camaro LS.. Interesting conjecture.. Last edited by Zabo; 08-20-2009 at 12:05 PM. |

Ford has even never hinted at the same with the last time the Ecoboost V6 and the Mustang were even mentioned in the same breath at Ford was in a survey asking people what they might want in a new Mustang back in 2005. When part numbers were found for the 3.7L V6 and the 5.0L V8, there was no Ecoboost V6 part number, meaning that 3.5L EB is literally not on the menu for 2011. The 3.5L Ecoboost V6 is actually more expensive to produce than the 3.5L Ecoboost, and by a considerable margin. The first Ecoboost to hit a regular production Mustang will be the 2.5L EB four when it replaces the 3.7L V6. If a 3.5L EB appears in the 2011+ Mustang it will be in a special edition which costs more than the GT and it wont be built by Ford, although it would be a factory offering. Right now, Ford wont be putting one together. |
