The first night I had my car someone egged it. We called the cops the next day but there was nothing they could do about it. Still don't know who did it, but would love to find out.

Ummmm, Seriously?

So that was my initial response until I read down a little, kind of sounded like you had done something stupid and needed to "clean up" the situation.

But this guy is right. I guess I don't know what the resources are in your area. But where I'm at, there is one crime lab in the entire state. It's not like CSI where there is a murder and they load up in their Hummers and 20 of them come on out and have a party picking up minute pieces of glass. My cop buddy told me that the lab is backed way up as it, like years, and even a congressman's niece getting murdered wouldn't get bumped up higher on the list. They only take the real special cases.

Case in point, he said if a guy is running from the cops and throws a bag of weed or something away, then the guy gets away, even if they recover the weed they'll won't be able to track the guy down from it. If they track him down another way, then they have the weed, but the weed isn't a lead. I think in that same story he pretty much said the same thing for a gun. Maybe if there was a clear finger print on it, but they don't DNA test guns because they just can't, system is too backed up.

Some very uneducated responses so far...

Fingerprints cannot be taken off of an egg carton. A fingerprint can only be taken off specific surfaces, such as metals, glass or very hard/sense plastics. The fingerprint that is lifted from the surface is actually the oils secreted from the individual.

That being said. Even if the surface is favorable, doesn't mean a fingerprint is there. Typically when people are committing a crime the are very nervous/excited/high which means they produce more sweat/oils. The more oils that there are, the more the fingerprints can be smeared.

No agency is going to collect DNA for a simple vandalism. As stated above, there is no proof, just circumstantial evidence that the egg carton you found is tied to your incident. In the courts, to make a conviction on a criminal matter there needs to be no reasonable doubt that could conflict with the incident.

Side note. If you were able to miraculously get a fingerprint somewhere off something. Expect to wait over a year to get a response back from the labs. That's how long the prints around here for petty crimes take.

I believe the eggs had just been bought at wal-mart a little while before it happened. They sell that brand of eggs so I went to wal mart and asked when the last time eggs like these were bought and she couldn't tell me and I asked if I could look at the cameras And she said not without a police report.

How often do teenagers buy eggs from wal mart at 11PM?

A house got egged a few houses down. I believe they did it to make it seem like I wasn't being targeted. My car was keyed when I was in high school.

Buddy, unless you have an eye witness that will testify or write a witness report about the incident OR have some video surveillance of the actual incident occuring, then forget about catching the people that did it. You should call the police, file a report and then talk to your insurance company.

Sounds to me like you are in high school, and some not so friendly classmates did this in spite of you having a nice car. Your best reaction is no reaction. Don't attempt to drop hints or let them know you know who it is; move on and deal with the insurance company.

Besides the fact, even if Walmart did allow you to view their tapes (which no business will without police involvement, and they are not even required to do so then if they don't want to), a video of some teenagers buying a carton of eggs places no crime or involvement. If the video showed an elderly woman purchasing an identical set of eggs, would you blame her? No. (Wrong type of logic)

I don't know. But this reminds me of a funny story. I was at a grocery store, years ago, at like midnight or 1 am. There were two girls in front of me who were obviously high school age. They had a ton of toilet paper they were buying. Pretty obvious what was going on there.

OP, it sucks, but that dog doesn't hunt. What I mean is you are putting a lot of effort into something that is going no where.Clean it best you can and maybe focus on prevention in the future.

Your just barking up the wrong tree.
There is no law against anybody (even teenagers) buying eggs at 11:00 PM

You're not going to find out who did it. Clean the car and install some security cameras just in case they come back.

My car got keyed at a car show...and I even know who did it (another Camaro owner) because someone saw him do it...but I didn't pursue it. If you think someone has it out for you now...try pursuing charges and see what happens next. Haters are going to hate no matter what you do...so it's best to let it go and let the person walk away feeling like they got one over on you...otherwise you'll likely regret it later. And others have suggested you let your insurance deal with it but I don't see any damages from an egging being higher than your deductible so what's the point?

I'm sorry that this happened to your car...it's a shame that some people are the way they are. But punishing them will not change them...so let karma do it's thing and you'll be the bigger person.
