Not only that but wasn't the 5.0 designed with direct injection in mind? If so, it wouldn't be too much to convert it.

A good set of cams will get you 450 hp. Add DI to that and 500 is not out of the question.

Definitely will not be a 2 seater, but I can't imagine the back seats being much use.

As I said before it could be an amazing package, but you can't expect Corvette performance or quality out of it for half the cost.

2014 Corvette was tested at what...12.1 or 12.2 in the 1/4 mile? I'd be shocked if the GT was the same weight as the Corvette. So I'd guess a 3,3xxlb Mustang to be 12.5 at least if not slightly better and yes that is pretty damn close, but again I highly doubt the V8 equipped Mustang will be as light as the Corvette. I'd guess it will be at least 75 to 100 lbs heavier or more (puts the GT at mid 3,3xx range) and many models will probably have higher gearing for maximum mileage.

When it comes to the track, the Corvette, with its tunable suspension will be quicker. Not to mention the Covette also has a nice upscale interior and lots of very cool dash displays and gadgets.

Now if Ford really does want the Mustang to compete with Corvette and Camaro they are going to have to have these expensive options for the Mustang available. So in the end, if you want a Mustang that has the best interior quality, the cool displays, the best engine, and the track specific handling....you ain't getting that for half the cost of a Corvette.

Exactly why I don't buy it. I really don't think that Mustang can pull that kind of weight reduction off (especially when they're going to an IRS) without adding significant cost.

Wow this would be devastating to the Camaro if the weight was actually reduced that much.

Why not? BRZ and FR-S did it for a 2700 pound curb weight with IRS and start around 25k. You add the extra weight for the mustangs slightly larger size and beefier engines and bam.

OK am I the only one NOT caught up in "drag this", "track that", HP, weight, etc. and instead sitting with a WTF look going "Smaller than it is today?".

Why the hell would I want a smaller car, almost 370Z size? Damn what is it with the Euro mindset lately...I do not WANT a smaller "muscle" car. Big, bad, beefy....please GM do not turn the Camaro into a Euro-wannabe to compete if that is the direction Ford is going.

What options do you speak of that it would need to make the interior better? You realize the base Vette isn't nearly as nice as upper trim Vettes ie has a vinyl dash cover instead of leather, different less bolstered seats, and so forth. The base Vette has a nice interior, but it is not some Mercedes S-Class place to be. Mustang GT already offers updated guage clusters with performance info etc,m already has Nav, bluetooth, power seats, heated seats, available Recaro Seats, etc, etc. They will certainly offer different suspension packages as they do now. I am confused and trying to figure out what a 3300 pound Mustang GT would really be lacking as like most cars, alot of the luxury options are still that, options.......

CAFE standards. Auto manufacturers know that no muscle owner is going to want to go backwards in terms of HP, so weight reduction is really the best option to satisfy both the customers and the feds.

Fine with me too. Pony cars used to be a lot smaller anyway, so a reduction in length wouldn't be the end of the world.

don't worry people! Remember the last time they shrunk the Mustang? Think 1974 Mustang II. I had one, it was my first car, it almost destroyed the Mustang.

I'm sure they new one will be equally as bad as the 1974. lol

I think it would force GM to add more HP to the Vette. If you make the base Vette with something closer to 525HP then it would be comfortably quicker than the Mustang, while allowing GM to come in with a ~450HP Camaro SS that is around 3400-3500 lbs. Such a car would probably be just as quick as the current Z/28. I really hope Ford does make a 3300 lb. GT, so it'll make GM work hard to come up with something competitive. But I don't know if GM can even get 525HP from the LT1 or get rid of 500 lbs. from the Camaro.
