This link has tons of before and after photos. I think the real level of devastation is truly not being assessed by the media. The pictures on this link show colossal flooding, including bridges and roads completely wiped out.

All of these pics are within 10 blocks from my house.

So, while my Camaro was safe and sound here:

This is what was left behind in my neighborhood

Just for reference, this was taken from my friends house in the same neighborhood. Keep in mind, this is the next morning. The surge was twice this height when the storm hit

S.I. was hit hardest as far as lives lost- accounting for half of the total number thus far... As someone who is so into science, it was so annoying for me to hear people say the stupidity that I heard over the previous week. All in all, basically not taking the storm seriously, because these types of things dont happen here, Irene was overblown, etc. I hate to say it but some people need to experience this to learn. The east side of the island faces the Atlantic, and is mostly low lying. Why anyone living in that area would stay for a zone a evacuation is beyond me

I didnt take too many pics of actual leveled and destroyed houses bc I wanted to respect their privacy.. here are some more pics here http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/photo...tion-of-staten
I was worried about you Joe. Glad to hear you and your family are ok!
