Sandy Pics

All in all, my family is personally very lucky... I have a house in Brooklyn, NY, but we primarily live in Staten Island, one of the five boroughs of New York City.

Its been a very tough few days to see the destruction left behind here. Personally, all we lost was tree limb, and power for 3 days. The surrounding neighborhoods not so much.

All of these pics are within 10 blocks from my house.

So, while my Camaro was safe and sound here:

This is what was left behind in my neighborhood

Just for reference, this was taken from my friends house in the same neighborhood. Keep in mind, this is the next morning. The surge was twice this height when the storm hit

S.I. was hit hardest as far as lives lost- accounting for half of the total number thus far... As someone who is so into science, it was so annoying for me to hear people say the stupidity that I heard over the previous week. All in all, basically not taking the storm seriously, because these types of things dont happen here, Irene was overblown, etc. I hate to say it but some people need to experience this to learn. The east side of the island faces the Atlantic, and is mostly low lying. Why anyone living in that area would stay for a zone a evacuation is beyond me

I didnt take too many pics of actual leveled and destroyed houses bc I wanted to respect their privacy.. here are some more pics here http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/photo...tion-of-staten

Man those photos look like that area was trashed beyond imagination.

The news is FINALLY stating the the Integrated Kinetic Energy output of Hurricane Sandy was higher than Katrina. I kept thinking all along that Sandy's wreckage looks worse than Katrina's, though maybe it is exactly the same.

honestly not surprised.. obviously in terms of destruction you cant compare, but that is due to engineering failure

but the storm itself, even though we're talking a category 5 vs a strong category 1, it became a whole different beast once the systems merged
