You want a crazy fast car that is at the pinnacle of the now... Buy the N/A F12 with 740hp! ( no blower or turbo)There will always be a faster car I guess.
Looks are not the #1 reason why I buy one car from another. Performance in this category of car comes first, then strength of parts (because I'm definitely hard on car and abusive to its hardware), price, features and then looks because they all look the same sitting behind the wheel and driving like it was intended.

If I cared that much about looks I'd buy a V6 and invest the rest.

5,000 or so units sold a year that get 23mpg wont impact the company as a whole and these car's and performance level arnt going nowhere.

Performance is important, agreed. I rate looks higher, as the average car sits for 95% of its life. I look at it on the driveway or on the street, or hoist more than I'll ever drive it as much as I try!
If I don't love the way it looks, I don't buy it. If you love the way the mustang loos, 70hp wouldn't matter.
When the hell is Ford going to hand out this beast for some reviews anyway?

Nothing at all wrong with the base pricing on the 13 500, actually one thing is, I still can't afford it! About 6-months ago I received pricing on a base 12 500 for $45,000, so the price has inched up unless the dealer I spoke with was offering substancial discounts.

All in all I think most 500 owners will want a little more than the base package, probably opt for the SVT option. Still I think the ZL1 is the better value.

The question is where will the leftover 12 500 prices fall to, might be interesting.

I will say this, Ford does offer you options most ZL1 owners would want, like a real NAV, and Recaros...it's the extra cost to get the better suspension that really sucks. Ford makes you pay for the right set up as an extra, which is definitely advantage Chevy.

I feel like both cars make buyers fork over huge dollars and accept from very big compromises.

Personally, knowing how much both cars will depreciate once the re-designs happen and both cars become lighter and better, you have to have pin money to burn on either car. Love both cars, but just can't justify the price for either right now.
Bottom line is, the gt500 is $54,200 MSRP, you're adding all the other stuff like it's mandatory lol
It's good to have choices, some people don't want nav, or a track pack or a glass roof etc...Of course the track pack would make it perform better on a road course but at the strip, it won't the car any faster.

So does everyone think it's safe to say the z will out perform the base gt500 in regards to tracking, but if you optioned the 500 out, then the 500 has the advantage but you have to pay for it? Sort of seems that way. Your talking a 10k swing

It's pretty clear to me that if people want a track car they should buy the ZL1 and if people want a car for the strip they should consider the GT500

I think the ZL1 will outperform the GT500 on the track regardless of what options you add to it.

However, that's just my opinion - NOBODY knows at this stage

Let's see how well the GT500 can get the power to the ground now. Bring on the ZL1 vs. GT500 tests!!!

Let's just actually get one to a customer. Both fail to exist in my eyes until a production version is delivered.

I won't lie, I'd love to drive a ZL1. Anyone who says otherwise is "probably" full of it. I just wouldn't buy one as I've always been a HUGE Mustang fan. And likewise, I'm sure plenty of Camaro guys would enjoy the GT500, but they aren't Mustang guys.

I for one don't care which one wins on a road course, but that's not to take away from how well the winner will handle.

Guys, the price is pretty much a wash. However, you can get recaros on the stang for the price of the gas guzzler tax on the camaro. They're both great cars and I would be happy to drive either. To me the biggest difference is that the camaro offers an automatic which will attract alot more "casual" buyers. That was a brilliant move. Lets not kid ourselves either. The only track most of these cars will ever see is a quarter mile or the open road between traffic lights. In that regard, it makes alot of sense to make the upgraded suspension, etc an option. Horsepower bragging rights and quarter mile times in this class is what most people truly want.

i agree with this. when the zl1 was announce everyone wanted to know how much hp,not how it will handle. same with the gt500 how much hp. what it run at the track is more important to a lot of people. some might make it to a road event.
