I guess that would make sense...however, I do like to look at the front end of a newer GT500. Very sharp.

I don't think this is the next generation Mustang. You can obviously tell it's the current model car. I think those pictures are a 2013 Mustang GT with alot of styling cues from the 2012 GT500. I read something similar to this a couple months ago. Ford is adding GT500 details to the future GT.

Especially given how they went almost as far as they possibly could during the 2010/2011 refresh. If it was a mild refresh in say 2009, I could understand maybe doing another one before retiring the generation. But even that would be pretty unusual.

A second MCE is odd, but I don't think Ford was planning on a redesigned Mustang until mid-decade from the start. Probably a last-ditch attempt to pull sales back from Camaro until the new generation.

It's because the Mustang is getting outsold by the Camaro on a monthly basis. They are holding out hope that making the stock Mustangs look more like a GT500 that they will be able to gain some sales away from Camaro. Really if you think about it just shows how desperate they are because this is the 2nd model change for the car. It's like after the first model change for the 2010 model wasnt selling much they decided that they should try one last ditch effort. This isnt the new 6th generation Mustang due out in 2014 they have already said the new Mustang will look more futuristic and wont be retro at all. It will be interesting to see how Chevy will respond to the new Mustang for the 6th Gen Camaro.

All I have to say to Ford is that new 2013 Shelby GT500 had better look ALOT different than the current Shelby GT500 since the stock GT looks like that now. Unless the new Shelby is radically different looking than it is now there will be no way to tell the two cars apart. I'm sure that Ford is probably going to be bringing the Cobra or Terminator Mustang back and it will looks different than the new GT Mustang. I wonder how this will effect the Camaros sales with the new look on the Mustang? It will be hilarious if the Camaro still outsells them even after this much of a change. Chevrolet probably wont refreshen the Camaro to look like a ZL1 since the ZL1 is just coming out and it would take sales away from the ZL1. As long as the Camaro keeps outselling the Mustang there will be little reason to change the looks for a little while.

The rear certainly looks better, at least.

I think that's a good direction for them to go with. The GT500 is the hottest looking car going and if they make a more affordable version with the same looks it may just be a hit.
It also looks like they fixed the back side which was the only down fall.

The Shelby GT500 front end looks better than the V6 & GT Mustang front ends however I wouldnt go as far as to say it is the hottest looking car going lol. For all we know the GT Mustang may just get the grill from the Shelby and not the air extractors on the hood that the Shelby has. Another thing is that I never have really found the Shelby GT500's front grill to look all that agressive looking. The grill looks more like it is smiling than it is agressive. The ZL1 grill looks better and I would even go as far to say that every 5th Gen Camaros grill looks better because they all look more agressive looking as if the car is growling. I will give them some thumbs up for changing the backend tail lights as the ones on the 10-11 models are down right ugly and ruin the vehicle and I have seen several Mustang fans say the same thing. I think they are spending too much money on the 5th gen Mustang whats the point when in a year and a half the next gen will be out. Just my 2 cents.

This new GT is going to be unveiled at the upcoming LA Auto show so we will see what they have done to improve the look very soon.
