Two great cars ,one as the looks that makes anyone wanted one , the other as the looks that every one has already seen , yet the second one tends to make people believe that is way faster, and the first one as people thinking on how to make it going faster and with style , so the decision has to be on the individual that will be putting the name by the X ,just one thing to think about in my opinion is that the ZL1 is right around the corner . To the OP just be happy and enjoy the new baby .

This was a style that a friend of mine owned growing up that I liked:

This is the 2011 that I don't hate but don't particularly care for either:

On the flip side, I prefer the 2011 Mustang interior. What I like better about Mustang's interior:
  • Door handles: nice L-shape instead of odd cumbersome "loop"
  • Use of multiple materials like aluminum
  • Option for Head unit with color screen and nav !
  • Head unit that doesn't look like Lost-in-Space robot or playstation controller
  • Option for dual zone Electronic climate control
  • Nicer finish on the center AC outlets (plus Camaro's directional knobs are a bit crude)
  • Slightly more finished look of door speaker grille
  • Easier to read gauges
  • Overall better perceived quality with trim and accents
  • More compact parking brake lever w/boot

over the 2011 Camaro interior:

I do think the Camaro interior has MORE Potential with its unique design but so far, lags in features and perceived quality. And IMO, that head unit is just plain wierd and is too limiting (no options for color screen, no option for multiple lines of text for your mp3 player, no option for NAV, no option for electronic climate control).

You have to take a few minutes to ponder what you really want. Do you want a Shelby or do you want a really fast Camaro?

I definitely agree with everyone else. It's your decision. I personally prefer a car you can personalize yourself. The GT500, Roush, Saleen and the ZL1 are all cars that the work has already been done...Not a lot of room for upgrades.

I personally enjoy the working, upgrading and personalizing myself. I have had my car for a year and a half and the only thing I have let a shop do so far is my cam and my tune. I did everything else in my garage with buddies.

I personally believe that is what the muscle car is all about........

I am by no means a Ford guy. I own 4 Chevrolets right now. With that said if I had the spare coin. A Shelby GT500 would be in my driveway , I couldn't trade my Camaro for one , but I would LOVE to own one. Its the only Mustang I would ever consider buying. I can see where you just couldn't help but jump on the deal. Good luck man and be safe in that beast!

I personally like both, I do like the Boss 302. If I could have both I would. I chose the Camaro because of the styling and I've always been a Chevy guy but there is nothing wrong with the stang. At the end of the day its your decision, good luck with what ever you choose and have fun with either.

In my area, it's getting to be where you see almost as many Gen5 Camaros passing you on the road than you do the newer Mustangs. If sales kepp going the way they are, the Gen5 is going to be in the same "overplayed" category as the Mustang. Besides, you never se many GT500's out on the roads, so you have a much better chance of seeing yourself in a Camaro than you will a GT500.

As for the OP's question, I have several friends who were big GM guys who "jump ship" to a GT500 and have no regrets at all. Buy what you want, not what other people think you should have. I get crap about my Crossfire convertible all the time, but I love it.

Some people like hauling ass and keeping their 5 year factory warranty in tact vs a VOID'ed one after a cam install.

I think you did the right thing.

Last year I was all geared up and ready to get an SS but I knew I wouldn't be happy with stock looks or stock performance and after reading many posts here on C5 and on 5thgen it looked like I was going to need a supercharger to satisfy my hp needs and full exhaust to give it that proper muscle car sound, and eventually new rims and tires. Problem being I didn't have the $10,000 cash on hand to pay for the mods and installation and repair if anything went wrong since I just voided my warranty.

Enter the new GT500, at the time their base msrp was $46k and then the announced the new aluminum engine and SVT performance package and I was sold, and it only cost me an extra $100 a month over my would be SS payment.

I was NEVER a mustang guy before this and might of ended up with a ZL1 if they would of been available when I made my purchase but after a year of ownership my only gripe is the way the car reacts when you hit a mid corner bump at speed but that can be cured by going with a watts link. I think the GT500 is the fastest cheapest most versatile car right out of the box for under $50k. It does everything great, its still quicker around a road circuit then the Boss and tears up the strip with stickies and all without voiding the warranty.

PM me if you want to chat more.

Get whatever you want and can easily afford. Who cares whether it's Ford or Chevy?

A buddy at the track with his Shelby runs 11.6 on street tires (pulley, CAI), assuming he gets a good launch with his M6. I'm a half-second (12.1) behind with my bolt-on automatic SS.

When we're at the track, he spends a half-hour with an ice bag on the blower, hoping heatsoak won't kill his next run. During that half-hour, I get 3-4 back-to-back runs, all within a quarter-tenth and quarter-mph of each other.

When I cam mine, I'll be consistently quicker than him.

To each his own.

^^ he would easily run low 11's with some type of drag tires, putting him consistantly faster than you even with the cams.

Oh I know, but I have more than that planned.

Friendly competition is a good thing.
