Yet Toyota has NUMEROUS cars go out of control unexplained (driver error), Tacomas on the road with SEVERELY rusting frames affecting the actual structual integrity of the trucks...and you barely hear a word about it. Here we have 1 car with 1 steering wheel falling off that resulted in 0 deaths, 0 accidents...and the NHTSB is already hearing about it and WSJ has a news article out showing the cars on the assembly line as if ready to pounce in an unsuspecting buyer. There is no bias in the press against US automakers, right?

That was a highly trained CHP OFFICER'S FAULT...just ask Toyota. Nothing they did. Driver error. Sure NUMEROUS people called into 911 telling them of a speeding Lexus with it's BRAKES ON FIRE...but no...it was NOT the Toyota's fault. Driver error. Where is that B.S. Smiley? Oh, here it is:

...or maybe...just maybe...Baker Toyota's fault...

http://autos.aol.com/gallery/Saylor-crash-report/

Toyota settled, but excluded Baker...where the real issue was NOT addressed. Read Pages 19-forward...

I hate it for the guy and his family. But I seriously doubt he had any idea of what to do in a situation where the accelerator sticks. That knowledge could have saved him and his families life.

I'll you one thing when the steering wheel pops off I hit the brakes and come to stop. When the computer goes beserk takes complete control of the car, then I don't know what to do either. But hey it was floor mats right....right?

You kind of miss the point. A recall that is provocative will always get attention, steering wheels coming off and families being killed because they could not stop are provocative stories, it makes no difference who makes the car. If they think the story will sell papers, they run it.

In Saylor's case, that's the conclusion the Sheriff's Department came up with. Wrong mats. It's in the report...right?

Sounds really suspicious because that steering will would first have to get loose as hell before coming off. So are the saying it just snapped off or did it just continue to get loose and the driver ignored the looseness until they just allowed it to come off???

Reports are indicating that the driver was able to pull the wheel off the column. No indications of warning.

The officer who wrote the incident report when a woman hit me with her car last year by running the stop said she didn't in his report, 3 witnesses disagreed..... Just saying police reports aren't always 100% accurate, either way the CHP officer officer is dead....

Definitely! At least GM recalled it instead of waiting years to involuntarily recall them!
