He was truly more interested in my car than anything else.

This is the first time I didn't say something to the cop when he came up to my window. I usually say something like "what the hell are you pulling me over for" or "I wasn't doing a damn thing wrong."

I read somewhere that cops hate when you start giving them shit when they come to your window. I had a Highway Patrol tell me to show more respect, to which I thought "screw you, you tail light chaser." So this time I didn't say a word when he came to my window untill he spoke first. He asked me how I was doing and I told him that depends on what you are pulling me over for.

I thought you always had 24 hours to prove you have a drivers license. The police can find out if you have a valid driver's license in about 2 minutes so I can't see why they would fine you for not having it with you. Same w/ registration, they can run the plate and determine if the plate matches the car, what do they do with the registration?

OP, just a couple things. Especially with the 2 things I quoted and bolded out. Yeah, as you know, PLEASE tell any LEO if you have a firearm in the vehicle especially if you are legit with the carry. Builds the trust issue a little bit and puts me more at ease if I know where they are. Just gonna give you a little s--- though and only because I had a retired officer give me s--- before I got on the force and used to carry when I lived in PA. Why are you carrying a firearm and leaving a round out of the chamber? (By the way glad the safety was on) You are carrying it for some intended purpose I would imagine self protection. If you are going to have to pull it for whatever reason in that instant you aren't going to have time to chamber a round. That wasted time trying to chamber the round under pressure could get you killed or you forget its not ready and pull the trigger and get to hear the loudest bullet of all--- "The one that doesn't go bang". "Then you will be in a world of s---" If you are carrying it out in public, always keep it loaded and ready or really there's no reason to carry it. Kinda made sense after they busted my b---- about it.
Second will be the comments I guess you didn't make this time. Probably what saved you from getting a ticket for sure. An officer is always going to give you the reason for the stop. We are going to go about a car stop in one of 2 ways either identify themselves and ask for your info. (I want to know who I am talking to before we get into why the stop was made) OR they will indentify and give the reason for the stop right away, then ask for your info. Both ways have their advantages and disadvantages. I was trained with both methods and just happen to like the first.
For an officer its all about gaining and keeping control of the encounter. "keeps us alive". Unfortunately, most common people don't like this idea giving up control. Being respectful and understanding what the officer is doing and why, will pay big dividends in the end for most car stops depending on the severity of the violation-- it really can't make matters worse. Just my 2 cents.
Glad you got off with a warning. Keep your stuff legit and keep all your info handy at all times.

I feel your pain on not having the front plate. I wish Ohio would get smart and change that law.

I am surprised you got off that easy. No ID, a gun in the glove box. How did he know you were who you said you were with no real ID? How did he know the car wasn't stolen and you were just using the owners name? That would not have flown in my state.

He asked me my street address, what my birth date was which all matched the info from the dispatcher. I think I got lucky because he was a local guy and obviously a car lover.

I'm trying to find a plate bracket that I don't have to drill holes in the car, do you guys have any recommendations? The motorized plate is unique but I don't need anything like that.
