Pulled over in Camaro for the first time.

I was out taking a little cruise in my Camaro SS and was going west on a state route here in northern Ohio. A local township cop was going east on the state route, looked over at me and spun around and came flying up behind me. I wasn't speeding (for once) so I knew that wasn't why he was pulling me over. He walks up to my drivers window and asks for DL, proof of insurance, and registration. I told him "I ain't got nuthin with me". I told him I was just out for a ride, so he ran my plate and it came back my license was clean. The dispatcher said I have a CC so he asked me if I was armed and I told him that I did have a gun in the glove box. He said you have no drivers license, no registration, and no proof of insurance but you have a gun in the car. I thought he was really going to bust my balls.

He finally told me he pulled me over for no front plate and that it's a $160 fine in Ohio. Then he said he wasn't going to give me a ticket, just wanted to let me know I have to get a front plate and he wanted to check out my car!

He looked my car over and asked me the HP, how long I've had it, where I got it, etc. He said his brother bought a Mustang GT before the Camaro's were on the market but wishes he would have waited for the Camaro's to come out.

He told me I had a beautiful car, take it easy, and be sure to get a front plate on the car.

This is the first time I have ever been pulled over for no front plate. I've owned 2 other cars that I never put a front plate on, and my wife has never had a front plate on any of her cars and she has never been pulled over.

Guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and get a front plate

Go buy a lottery ticket, you were very lucky. Do this if you want to mount a front plate.

If he was a real stand up guy he would have let the whole front plate thing go.

Hey that power plate thing is pretty cool, where do you get those? Don't you think it's likely you would rip it off on a parking stop because it's sit's lower than the front air dam?

It wasn't necessary to tell me so many times that I need to get a front plate, and he did tell me if he see's me again he will write me a ticket. I am VERY thankful he didn't write me a ticket and I thanked him for being cool about it.

He should have written you a ticket for not having I.D. and proof of insurance. Where do you keep those things? I always have my insurance in my glove compartment. The I.D. I can see, if you forgot to grab your wallet. The gun is another matter. I didn't know you could carry one with no I.D. in Ohio.

Good thing he was a car guy. He could have nailed you to the wall. Keep all that crap in the car, except your license. Nice little slots for them on those massive sun visors

When I got home I looked in the trunk and there was my registration and proof of insurance in an envelope. My wallet was in the house, I don't regularly carry it.

When the dispatch responded while running my plate they said I had a CC so I didn't need to show him proof since the dispatch confirmed that I had a CC license.

There is cool little clip under the lid of the center console, holds insurance and registration really well. You got lucky, here in NJ it is a $250 fine for each missing document.

First, never ever tell a cop you didn't do anything before they even say anything to you. Nothing will ever make you more guilty that saying that or something along the lines of "what did I do?" and "I didn't do anything officer." Sounds like the cop was stand up guy he could have gotten you for a lot more than a front plate, but he gave you a warning instead. Seriously I know its ugly but I've seen this several times on this forum already, just bite the bullet and get front plate already.

Yeah I know I was supposed to tell him I had a weapon in the car but I never thought about it until I heard the dispatcher say that I had a CC license. He asked about it and I told him it was in the glove box, loaded but no bullet in the chamber and the safety was on. I asked if wanted to inspect it and he said no. He was truly more interested in my car than anything else.

This is the first time I didn't say something to the cop when he came up to my window. I usually say something like "what the hell are you pulling me over for" or "I wasn't doing a damn thing wrong."

I read somewhere that cops hate when you start giving them shit when they come to your window. I had a Highway Patrol tell me to show more respect, to which I thought "screw you, you tail light chaser." So this time I didn't say a word when he came to my window untill he spoke first. He asked me how I was doing and I told him that depends on what you are pulling me over for.

I thought you always had 24 hours to prove you have a drivers license. The police can find out if you have a valid driver's license in about 2 minutes so I can't see why they would fine you for not having it with you. Same w/ registration, they can run the plate and determine if the plate matches the car, what do they do with the registration?

I would venture to guess that being respectful in most situations will yield better results than not. Basically the laws are written to keep people in line with the documentation that is needed in the car; license, registration, proof of insurance, ect. Most states I know of won't fine you if you don't have your documents but can present them within a fixed period of time. Consider this though, if you didn't have your license and couldn't supply your information for whatever reason, say you moved recently the officer could in theory put you in the clink.
