It could have been done up (either in PS or steel) for an april fools joke, then this simply leaked out. Or it could be an owners custom creation, like El Corvettos, that they built (or had built) to amuse themselves with.

Not to be cynical or anything, but do you really think that people would buy something like that Holden in the US after that sales disaster by the name of SSR? I don't know?!

The SSR was not a usable truck. The bed was carpeted for God's sake! The roof was complex (but cool) and it was heavy and slow. Couple that with being the price of a Corvette...people did not want the SSR. The Ute has proven to be capable at hauling everything, including ass...so I think it would sell here. It's conventional architecture would lend itself well to the US market compared to the outlandish SSR.
