Was that 302 offered as a factory option? From the literature I read I only found a 220hp 302.

Was it also drastically underrated like GM's 302?

I always see where people say the ford never stopped producing the mustang. I disagree. Who remembers the mustang II? I think when that came out it was Ford hiatus.
Just saying!

I think there are pockets of haters on each side and it's easy to hide on the internet. It's kinda like talking smack on Xbox, you are more aggresive because you think it sounds cool. I too like all kinds of cars myself. I'm even on the Ferrari boards. |

While some motors were under rated back then it was usually only the very radical ones. Actually the opposite is usually true because of the rating system that was used.
They used a gross hp rating system that is much less accurate by todays standards. Im not sure on the specifics (would have to look back into it) but I think it is a significant difference. A car that was rated at 350hp then would only be about 300 (or even less) now. There were TONS and TONS of 300+ horsepower cars in the 60's and early 70's that could not even break out of the 14's, hell a lot of them were in the 15's.. And the trap speeds were just as pitiful. ( I know the tires werent as good so I also look at traps) What would the z-28 302 run? I thought I have read an article in the past when they ran it against an iroc-z in the 80's and it ran like a 15.2. I have also seen other quoted times for the car only as low as 14.9 with a 97 trap speed. Hardly under rated at 290hp if you ask me. The curb weight was not far from the 220hp iroc that ran mid 14's. Check into it guys...I was surprised when I heard it a couple years ago on LS1tech. But it is true from the research I have done so far. Not many people realize this. Good conversation piece.
